About
Need for Speed: Underground 2 for Game Boy Advance is a handheld street-racing game developed by Pocketeers. It adapts the series' tuner-car focus to compact 3D courses and a structured progression instead of the free-roaming city used by the console releases.
Go Underground is the main career-style mode. Winning its events earns points, opens further challenges, and gradually makes new cars, performance parts, and visual equipment available. Quick Race offers individual events outside that progression, while the link mode supports two players alongside computer-controlled racers.
Races are built around circuit, time trial, knockout, drag, and drift formats. Circuit and knockout events put the player against rivals, drag racing adds gear shifts, lane changes, traffic, and ramps, and drift events reward controlled slides for points. Shortcuts, elevation changes, ramps, and crossing traffic give the prescribed routes extra hazards and opportunities.
The game uses direct Game Boy Advance controls for steering, acceleration, braking, and a handbrake slide. Collisions cost speed but do not remove a car from an event, so quick recovery and careful cornering are central to staying competitive. Nitrous can supply a burst of speed once the appropriate equipment has been fitted.
The garage is a major part of progression. Players can tune areas such as the engine, exhaust, tires, turbo, suspension, and nitrous, then alter the same car's appearance with body kits, bumpers, spoilers, rims, paint, vinyls, window tint, and neon. Garage camera controls let players inspect those changes before returning to the road.
Its licensed car roster draws from manufacturers including Mazda, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen. This Game Boy Advance edition shares the Underground 2 name and customization theme with larger versions, but its separate design is centered on a fixed sequence of events and courses rather than driving freely between races.
