About

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance reached Game Boy Advance in 2006 as a separate adaptation developed by Barking Lizards Technologies and published by Activision. Rather than reproduce Raven Software's party-based action RPG, this version reshapes the Marvel crossover into a compact 2D scrolling beat 'em up with light role-playing progression, simplified presentation, and an adventure built around short stages.

Nick Fury calls on Earth's heroes after Doctor Doom and the Masters of Evil strike at S.H.I.E.L.D. The resulting campaign sends the alliance through Marvel locations and against familiar villains, condensing the wider Ultimate Alliance storyline into text-and-sprite scenes between missions. Boss encounters supply the most recognizable opponents as the heroes work toward Doom's larger threat.

Eight heroes are immediately available: Blade, Captain America, Deadpool, Elektra, Iceman, Spider-Man, Thor, and Wolverine. The Thing and Ms. Marvel can be unlocked later, bringing the handheld roster to ten playable characters. Before a stage, players choose a team of three and can switch the hero under direct control, giving the squad a little flexibility even though the basic brawling structure remains constant.

Stages focus on advancing through enemy groups with punches, kicks, character attacks, and occasional key items before a boss battle. Experience earned by replaying missions can be used to improve the heroes, giving the game a modest reason to revisit its campaign beyond simply finishing the story. Its progression is intentionally much lighter than the console versions' broader character-building systems.

The fourth team slot is replaced by a non-playable striker. Each mission provides a Marvel ally—examples include Ghost Rider and Iron Man—who can be summoned periodically for a powerful screen-clearing attack. This three-hero-plus-striker setup is one of the GBA version's defining changes, alongside its smaller roster and brawler-style combat.

S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters also acts as a hub for extra challenges. The GBA release includes a S.H.I.E.L.D. Simulator with Time Challenges, Scavenger Hunts, and Survival-style activities, adding repeatable objectives outside the main story. These bonus modes and the ability to level a chosen lineup make this an unmistakably distinct portable interpretation of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.
