About

Dangan-Ronpa : Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei for PSP is the original Japanese release of the mystery adventure later localized as Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Developed and published by Spike, it arrived in Japan on November 25, 2010, as the first game in the Danganronpa series. The story follows Makoto Naegi, an ordinary student admitted to Hope's Peak Academy as its Ultimate Lucky Student. Instead of beginning a normal school life, Makoto and fourteen fellow students find themselves sealed inside the academy by Monokuma, a bear-like headmaster who turns escape into a deadly condition.

The game combines visual-novel storytelling, first-person exploration, investigation, and courtroom-style deduction. During School Life sections, players move through Hope's Peak Academy, speak with classmates, inspect rooms, and advance the central mystery. New areas open as the story progresses, while the quieter Free Time periods let Makoto spend time with selected students. Those conversations reveal more about the cast and can provide abilities for the trial sequences, giving character interaction a practical role alongside the narrative.

Whenever a murder takes place, the pace shifts into the investigation phase. Makoto searches the school for evidence and testimony, collecting it in his electronic handbook before the surviving students gather for a Class Trial. Each trial asks the group to identify the culprit, and the player must test statements against the facts found during the investigation. Rather than presenting evidence in a conventional menu alone, the PSP game frames contradictions as Truth Bullets that can be fired at weak points in a rapid discussion.

Class Trials also use several puzzle formats to reconstruct a case. Nonstop Debates challenge players to follow overlapping remarks and find the precise claim that evidence disproves; Hangman's Gambit turns a clue into a letter-shooting puzzle; Bullet Time Battle makes a disagreement into a rhythm-based exchange; and Closing Argument has the player assemble a comic-style account of the crime. Incorrect answers reduce Makoto's influence with the class, so careful observation and an understanding of the testimony matter as much as quick reactions.

Dangan-Ronpa : Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei established the series' mix of school drama, murder mystery, stylized interface design, and high-speed reasoning action on Sony's handheld. Its Japanese PSP release preceded later versions for smartphones and newer platforms, while its international identity became Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. For players exploring the series' origins, this version introduces Hope's Peak Academy, Makoto Naegi, Monokuma, the Free Time structure, and the Class Trial format that became central to subsequent Danganronpa games.
