About
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands on PSP is a standalone entry in the Sands of Time continuity, set in the years between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within. It follows the Prince on a different adventure from the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC releases, giving the portable version its own setting, characters, and threat.
The journey begins with a prophecy concerning Ahihud, a powerful fire spirit who fears that one of Persia's royal princes will cause his death. Drawn into the conflict, the Prince pursues Ahihud while uncovering the fate of spirits bound to the villain's scheme. The story frames the hero as a lone traveler learning to confront supernatural power and its consequences.
Helem, a spirit connected to time, becomes the Prince's ally during the quest. Their search leads to her imprisoned sisters, whose power Ahihud has been exploiting. Freeing them advances the story as well as the Prince's attempt to stop the prophecy from being fulfilled.
This version presents its environments as a 2.5D platformer. The Prince moves through richly modeled spaces from side-on and vertical viewpoints, turning familiar series acrobatics into carefully staged runs, leaps, wall maneuvers, climbs, and swings. Its levels favor precise route reading and timing over the freer 3D exploration of the home-console game.
Time manipulation is central to both navigation and recovery. The Prince can alter the pace of the world to deal with moving hazards and reshape opportunities for traversal, while limited rewind uses can undo a fatal mistake. Fountains restore his health and replenish these time-based resources, making their placement an important part of pushing through dangerous sections.
Combat is woven into the platforming adventure through enclosed encounters that must be cleared before the Prince can continue. Developed by Ubisoft Quebec for the PlayStation Portable, The Forgotten Sands adapts the series' motion and magical themes into a portable, side-scrolling structure while telling a distinct chapter under the same title.
