About

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas for PSP is a 2007 tactical shooter from Ubisoft Quebec, published by Ubisoft for Sony's PlayStation Portable. It brings the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series to the handheld with an original operation connected to the Las Vegas emergency depicted in the better-known console and PC editions. Rather than placing players in control of Logan Keller, this version follows a supporting Rainbow team whose work unfolds alongside the larger crisis. The result is a purpose-built portable game, with its own campaign, mission flow, characters, and multiplayer options.

The story casts players as Brian Armstrong, an assault specialist, and Shawn Rivers, a sniper. Their initial assignment is to locate fellow Rainbow operatives Gabriel Nowak and Kan Akahashi after the pair disappear during events near the Mexican border. That rescue leads Armstrong and Rivers into the wider attack on Las Vegas, where terrorists threaten important infrastructure as the city is placed in danger. The campaign uses the familiar Rainbow Six premise of a small counter-terrorism unit acting on rapidly changing intelligence, moving from one urgent objective to the next while trying to prevent a larger disaster.

Rainbow Six Vegas on PSP is built around careful movement, short-range firefights, and the value of information before entering a room. Most action is seen from a first-person viewpoint, but taking cover against suitable walls or objects shifts the perspective so players can look and fire from relative safety. That blend lets a player peek around corners, judge the next approach, and avoid treating every encounter as a straight run-and-gun exchange. Health, ammunition, and checkpoint placement make positioning matter, particularly when an objective requires the pair to survive a concentrated response.

The two leads give the campaign its defining mechanical twist. Armstrong handles the assault role, while Rivers supplies long-range precision; the game changes control between them at appropriate moments in a mission. A blocked route, an exposed target, or a distant threat can require the sniper's viewpoint before the assault specialist can advance. Equipment reinforces that methodical approach: night vision helps in low-light situations, and a flexible camera can be slipped beneath a door to inspect the adjoining space before committing to an entry. These tools frame each encounter as a compact tactical problem rather than simply a target gallery.

Its five main campaign levels use locations associated with the Las Vegas operation, including facilities and transport-related areas, instead of recreating the full campaign from the home-console releases. The PSP game's relationship to Rainbow Six Vegas is therefore narrative rather than a direct scene-for-scene conversion. It preserves the series' contemporary counter-terrorism setting and pressure-filled objectives while telling a parallel mission about Armstrong and Rivers. That distinction is important for players exploring the 2007 release: its protagonists, scenarios, and level progression were designed specifically for the system.

After the story, missions can be revisited in additional single-player modes, including Terro Hunt, which places enemies in levels for another tactical sweep. The game also supports both local ad hoc and online multiplayer for up to four players. Survival and Team Survival provide competitive matches, while the available maps draw on locations associated with earlier Rainbow Six games. As the franchise's first PlayStation Portable entry, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas adapts its emphasis on deliberate movement, cover, reconnaissance, and specialist roles to a compact handheld format without presenting itself as the same game as the console versions.
