About

Armored Core: Last Raven Portable for PSP is a 2010 mech action game developed and published by FromSoftware. It brings the 2005 PlayStation 2 title Armored Core: Last Raven to Sony’s handheld, closing the storyline that began with Armored Core 3. Players become a Raven, an independent pilot who accepts dangerous contracts in a fractured future where the corporations have combined as the Alliance and the opposing Vertex organization is poised to begin a new war.

The campaign unfolds over a tense 24-hour period. Before every operation, the player chooses from available jobs and decides which side, if any, to support. Those decisions affect later missions and steer the narrative toward one of several endings. Rather than following a single fixed sequence of stages, the Active Mission system makes each contract part of the player’s route through the conflict, so a successful mission can open a different set of opportunities from another playthrough.

Combat takes place from the cockpit of an Armored Core, a customizable combat machine assembled in the garage. Credits earned through missions pay for new equipment, letting players alter the machine’s frame, movement legs, generator, fire-control system, weapons, and other components to suit a particular assignment. A light, mobile build can approach a battlefield very differently from a heavily armed machine, and selecting equipment is as important as piloting it once the operation begins. Damage to individual parts also matters during a fight, making a damaged machine’s condition a practical concern instead of a purely visual detail.

Missions send the Raven into battles against opposing Armored Cores and other military targets across urban areas, industrial sites, deserts, and ruined facilities. The goal may be to eliminate a target, defend an installation, destroy equipment, or survive an encounter, with briefing information helping the player plan a loadout before deployment. Managing boost movement, ammunition, heat, armor, positioning, and weapon range is central to the action. The game retains the series’ emphasis on deliberate preparation: a difficult assignment can call for a redesigned machine and a new tactic rather than simply repeating the same approach.

Last Raven Portable preserves the story-driven single-player campaign while adapting the game for PSP. FromSoftware’s portable edition adds parts tuning, allowing further adjustment of compatible equipment, and supports carrying Armored Core parts between the related portable games. It also includes local ad hoc multiplayer for up to four players, giving pilots a way to test custom machines against other people as well as the campaign’s computer-controlled Ravens. The PSP release arrived first in Japan on March 4, 2010, with a North American digital release following that May.

The setting follows the collapse of the old order after Armored Core: Nexus. With the Alliance trying to impose control, Vertex gathering Ravens under Jack-O, and independent warlords pursuing their own interests, the player is not simply a soldier assigned to one army. The Raven’s choices bring encounters with figures such as Evangel, Zinaida, and Jack-O, while the wider struggle conceals the threat posed by ancient weapon technology. That branching structure makes the game a conclusion to its Armored Core 3-era storyline as well as a mission-based mech combat game.

For series players, Armored Core: Last Raven Portable is a handheld version of one of the most demanding entries in FromSoftware’s pre-modern Armored Core catalog. Its appeal lies in the connection between machine design and mission execution: the same garage can produce radically different answers to the next contract, and the campaign’s branches give repeated runs a purpose. Newcomers can still follow the immediate conflict, but familiarity with Armored Core 3, Silent Line, and Nexus gives the political situation and returning world a fuller context.
