About
Littlest Pet Shop: Beach Friends for Nintendo DS is a party-preparation adventure released by Electronic Arts in October 2009. Developed and published by EA, it is one of the three Nintendo DS editions issued under the Littlest Pet Shop Friends banner, alongside City Friends and Country Friends. Built around Hasbro's collectible-pet brand, Beach Friends turns the familiar animal characters into the focus of a light simulation and mini-game experience set in a seaside-themed version of the Littlest Pet Shop world.
The story follows a group of pets as they work toward the year's big Littlest Pet Shop celebration. A newly arrived mystery guest gives the preparations an extra sense of purpose, while the pets and their companions travel around town completing the jobs needed before the gala. Rather than presenting a single uninterrupted campaign of action stages, the game progresses through small quests and activities tied to invitations, food, decorations, gifts, and other party arrangements.
Players guide the pets through the town and take on a range of short challenges. Activities include delivering party invitations, serving cake and ice cream, and gathering materials for decorations. The game also uses arcade-style mini-games as part of its structure; documented examples include matching coloured watches, sorting craft materials into the proper bins, and selling materials for the in-game currency Kibble. These individual tasks give each outing a clear, child-friendly goal while contributing to the wider party plan.
Customization is another central part of Littlest Pet Shop: Beach Friends. Pets can be fitted with accessories, and the game lets players make their own designs as they prepare their animal friends for the event. Each pet also has a home that can receive party-related items, including gifts, baked goods, and decorations. The Nintendo DS edition pairs the featured pets with best-friend characters whose abilities help with activities and adventures, connecting the collecting and social ideas of the toy line to the game's quest-based progression.
Beach Friends is distinguished from the other DS Friends releases by its own storyline and a set of six exclusive pets. Electronic Arts released the three versions together, giving players different pet lineups while retaining the shared party theme. This version should not be confused with the separate Littlest Pet Shop Friends game for Wii: the Wii release has its own selection of pets and cooperative play, whereas Beach Friends is specifically the handheld Nintendo DS Beach Friends edition.
The Nintendo DS release supports enhanced Wi-Fi multiplayer, allowing friends to extend the pet-party activities beyond solo play. Its official North American release arrived on October 20, 2009, followed by a European release later that month. Rated E for Everyone in North America, Littlest Pet Shop: Beach Friends followed the 2008 Littlest Pet Shop games and continued Electronic Arts' run of DS adaptations of the Hasbro property. For players interested in the series' late-2000s handheld entries, it offers a themed mix of pet customization, simple errands, collectible characters, and mini-games built around one celebration.
