About
Ben 10: Protector of Earth for Nintendo DS is a 2007 action-platform game from 1st Playable Productions and D3 Publisher, built around Cartoon Network’s original Ben 10 animated series. It gives players control of Ben Tennyson, the ordinary boy whose Omnitrix lets him assume powerful alien forms, and turns the show’s world-saving premise into a portable adventure. Although it shares its title, setting and broad story with the PlayStation 2, PSP and Wii releases, the DS edition is a separate game tailored to Nintendo’s handheld hardware rather than a direct version of the console design.
The story begins after a drone steals most of the Omnitrix’s DNA samples while Ben is asleep. With his transformations severely limited and Vilgax pursuing the device’s power, Ben, Gwen and Grandpa Max set out across the United States to recover the missing samples and stop the threat to Earth. The journey draws on familiar elements from the series, including Vilgax’s forces, the Forever Knights and several recurring villains, while using the Tennysons’ road trip as a framework for the game’s changing locations and escalating confrontations.
On DS, Protector of Earth is presented as a side-scrolling 2.5D brawler and platformer. Ben moves through compact stages, jumps gaps, climbs across environmental obstacles and fights groups of enemies in close quarters. The format keeps progress moving between combat and traversal instead of following the more three-dimensional, co-operative approach used by the console versions. This makes the handheld release especially focused on quick level-by-level action, with enemies, hazards and simple environmental puzzles arranged for short portable play sessions.
The Omnitrix is the center of the game’s play. Ben begins with limited options and gradually regains access to alien transformations as the adventure advances. Forms such as Four Arms, Heatblast, XLR8, Cannonbolt and Wildvine bring different strengths to the action, from heavy attacks and ranged firepower to speed, rolling movement and plant-based abilities. The Nintendo DS touchscreen is used to operate the Omnitrix and select available forms, making transformation part of the handheld’s two-screen presentation rather than simply another button command.
Each alien form helps give familiar encounters a different feel while preserving an approachable control scheme for the series’ younger audience. Players can battle enemies, use the right transformation for a situation and collect upgrades that improve the aliens’ abilities. The game also includes collectible Sumo Slammer cards and other rewards, encouraging players to search stages as they advance. The result is a straightforward adaptation that emphasizes recognizable characters, transformations and accessible action over complex systems.
Protector of Earth arrived during the early expansion of Ben 10 beyond television and became an important entry in the franchise’s game history. It followed the earlier HyperScan title but was the first official Ben 10 game released widely on major game platforms. The Nintendo DS edition stands out because 1st Playable Productions designed it specifically as a portable side-scrolling adventure, with touch-driven Omnitrix controls and a distinct structure. For fans of the original series, it offers a focused way to relive Ben’s fight against Vilgax and restore the Omnitrix’s lost power on the go.
