About
Petz Horsez 2 for Nintendo DS is a 2007 horse-care simulation published by Ubisoft. It is the follow-up to the DS Horsez game and places the player in the role of a young trainer and rider building a stable of competitive horses. The game was released under several regional names: British players knew it as Pippa Funnell 2: Farm Adventures, while Spain received Horsez: Mi aventura en el rancho and Germany used Abenteuer auf dem Reiterhof: Wiedersehen im Tal. Developed by Lexis Numérique, the Nintendo DS edition is a handheld-specific version of the game rather than a description of the separate PC, PlayStation 2, or Wii releases that share the Petz: Horsez 2 name.
The central routine combines stable management with raising foals. Players can care for as many as three individual foals, looking after them as they mature through practical jobs such as brushing, washing, and cleaning their stables. That regular attention is tied to the wider goal of producing capable riding horses: care is not simply decorative, but part of preparing animals for training and competition. The focus stays on the day-to-day responsibilities of a trainer, from keeping the stable in order to developing a dependable group of horses.
Competition gives that care-and-training loop a clear purpose. After developing their horses' skills, players enter riding events including races, show jumping, dressage, and cross-country competition. These events are presented from a 3D riding view on the DS, asking the player to guide a horse around the course in pursuit of a successful result. Winning events earns money, linking the sporting side of the game to the stability of the ranch and making the choice of how to train each horse part of the broader progression.
The adventure is framed by a ranch-saving story set in southern France. The player helps Kevin, an injured rider whose ranch faces closure unless enough money can be raised through competition. This gives the horse simulation a concrete narrative objective alongside its animal-care activities: nurture the foals, turn them into competitive riders, and use the resulting success to keep the ranch running. It also distinguishes the game from a purely open-ended virtual-pet format by giving the stable work and events a shared destination.
Petz Horsez 2 also makes use of features associated with Nintendo's dual-screen handheld. The DS microphone supports voice recognition, allowing players to speak to their horses and see them respond. It can additionally communicate with Pet Vet 2 for Nintendo DS: sick horses may be sent to the vet, with the connection unlocking extra stable items such as saddles and brushes. Together with the regional branding and its single-player stable adventure, these details make the Nintendo DS edition a horse-training entry in Ubisoft's Petz line built around care, riding events, and a campaign to protect a friend's ranch.
