About

Jackass: The Game for Nintendo DS is a 2008 action and stunt game based on MTV’s Jackass franchise. Developed specifically for the handheld by Sensory Sweep Studios and published by Red Mile Entertainment, it is not simply the DS edition of the earlier PlayStation 2 and PSP game. Instead, this version puts an original rookie performer into a compact 3D take on the series’ reckless, prank-driven world, using a structure designed around exploring locations and taking on stunt assignments.

The game begins by letting players create their own Jackass newcomer. That character becomes the crew’s willing test subject, meeting familiar faces from the show and attempting the dangerous, deliberately foolish challenges they set up. The premise keeps the player at the center rather than casting them as a single television personality, while the tone draws on the franchise’s mix of physical comedy, outrageous setups, and the consequences of a stunt going wrong.

Unlike a straightforward sequence of disconnected minigames, Jackass: The Game on DS has players move through six free-roaming 3D environments. Each area contains members of the crew who offer missions, giving exploration a role in finding the next stunt. The settings range across different outdoor and urban-style spaces, and the main objective is to locate the relevant characters, accept their challenge, and complete it in order to advance toward larger stunts.

Many assignments revolve around using improvised vehicles or launch points, then steering through the air or aiming for a target. The portable version also uses knockouts and ragdoll-style falls to turn failed landings into slapstick spectacle. Running, jumping, maneuvering, and timing a stunt all matter, but the focus is on the comic setup and the attempt to send the player character through an obstacle course, across a space, or into a suitably chaotic impact.

Progression brings access to additional content, including collectible outfits for the player-created character. Costumes such as the gorilla and Santa outfits fit the game’s intentionally absurd presentation and offer a reason to search beyond the most direct route to a mission. There are also extra activities outside the principal stunt path, so the DS release combines its mission chain with a small amount of optional play in its environments.

Jackass: The Game arrived in North America in January 2008, several months after the PlayStation 2 and PSP entries bearing the same name. That timing and the separate developer are important distinctions for retro-game collectors: the Nintendo DS version is its own handheld interpretation of the license, built around roaming 3D zones, a custom protagonist, and stunt missions rather than the console versions’ episode-production format. It remains a late-2000s licensed DS game that tried to translate the show’s chaotic daredevil identity into portable play.
