About
LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues for Nintendo DS is a 2009 action-adventure platform game developed by TT Fusion and published by LucasArts. It is the handheld companion to the 2008 LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, but it is not simply a reduced version of the home-console sequel. Released in North America on November 17, 2009, this Nintendo DS edition tells a distinct, portable-focused LEGO version of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, using slapstick LEGO presentation to turn the film's archaeological escapades into a compact adventure.
The main story is organized around Kingdom of the Crystal Skull rather than the four-film campaign found on larger systems. Indiana Jones travels through a 1957 adventure involving Soviet opponents, secret facilities, Peruvian ruins, jungle hazards, and the route to Akator. The story is split into three acts, with short comic-book-style scenes linking its chapters. Familiar movie situations are reshaped into playful game set pieces, so the emphasis is on navigating danger, solving environmental problems, and escaping trouble in the series' characteristic silent visual comedy.
Designed for the DS screen and controls, the game largely favors left-to-right platform action. Players guide LEGO characters across ledges, ladders, gaps, traps, and hostile areas while breaking LEGO objects, gathering studs, and working toward each stage's goal. Objectives vary by level: some ask the player to reach the exit, while others focus on surviving an encounter or collecting a required number of studs. This gives the campaign a brisk rhythm of movement, combat, simple exploration, and puzzle solving rather than the wider hub-based structure of the console editions.
Indiana's whip remains one of the adventure's central tools. At whip points, the Nintendo DS Touch Screen is used to swipe the whip from its handle toward its tip, allowing the player to interact with objects and progress through the environment. The cast's different abilities also matter when obstacles appear. Whip use, digging, and acrobatic movement are among the skills used to open routes or handle particular challenges, encouraging players to choose the character suited to the task instead of relying on one approach throughout.
The Nintendo DS release also provides a local multiplayer option for two people who each have a DS system and their own game card. A second player can join the adventure through the systems' wireless connection, bringing cooperative problem solving to the campaign. The game includes character-customization options as well, letting players assemble two original playable characters by mixing parts from existing LEGO Indiana Jones 2 characters. These features fit the LEGO games' playful spirit while keeping the handheld version focused on short, accessible sessions.
Although it shares its title with versions released for Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, and other platforms, LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues on Nintendo DS is a separate adaptation with different levels and a smaller scope. It concentrates on the fourth Indiana Jones film while offering additional challenge material inspired by moments from the earlier trilogy. That distinction is important for players exploring the series: this is TT Fusion's own take on the franchise for Nintendo's dual-screen handheld, built around stylus interaction, side-scrolling stages, and wireless cooperative play rather than the console game's broad collection of film playsets and custom-level creation.
