About

Captain America: Super Soldier for Nintendo DS is a 2011 single-player side-scrolling action-platformer from Griptonite Games and Sega. Released in North America on July 19, after European and Australian launches that month, it arrived alongside versions for larger systems but is a distinct handheld adaptation rather than a miniature version of their third-person adventure. The game draws on the World War II setting associated with Captain America: The First Avenger, sending Steve Rogers into a HYDRA-controlled installation for an original licensed mission.

The Nintendo DS adventure moves through 2D stages built around advancing through enemy-held areas, reaching new rooms and overcoming the hazards placed between them. Captain America fights groups of HYDRA soldiers with punches, kicks, grabs and throws, and his vibranium shield supplies the signature ranged option. It can be hurled at opponents and brought back into the flow of a melee, while blocking and additional moves give encounters more options as the campaign continues. Progress regularly depends on clearing hostile rooms, so positioning and keeping enemies from surrounding Cap matter during the heavier battles.

Platforming is an equally important part of the DS version's rhythm. Captain America climbs through the base by jumping between ledges and using wall jumps, with occasional fast-running sections demanding timely leaps over gaps and obstacles. Some areas switch the pace to stealth, asking players to slip past or disable security cameras and take down guards without being noticed. Basic environmental puzzles also interrupt the action, including switches and situations where shield bounces are used to trigger devices or open the route onward. These elements make the portable game a hybrid of brawling, traversal and light problem-solving rather than the fully 3D format used by its console and Nintendo 3DS counterparts.

The campaign tells its story through voiced scenes and collectible dossiers scattered across the stages. Rescuing imprisoned soldiers is another recurring objective, and exploration can uncover health-increasing vials, dossiers and unlockable costumes. Boss encounters vary the ordinary soldier fights with more specialized threats and objectives, while the game’s connected sequence of areas uses transitions and cutscenes instead of a conventional level-select structure. The Nintendo DS touch screen is employed in selected puzzle moments, but Captain America's movement and combat remain centered on the handheld's standard controls.

Captain America: Super Soldier belongs to the wave of Marvel film tie-in games released in 2011, yet its DS edition has its own developer, side-view presentation and platform-focused design. That distinction is useful for players looking specifically for Captain America: Super Soldier Nintendo DS: this is Griptonite's portable action game, not the later-looking 3D experience available on Nintendo 3DS, Wii, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Its World War II backdrop, shield-based combat, dossiers and costume rewards give the game a clear Captain America identity while adapting the character's movement and combat for the dual-screen handheld.
