About

The Sopranos: Road to Respect is a third-person action game based on HBO's The Sopranos. Developed by 7 Studios and published by THQ for PlayStation 2, it follows an original story set after the television series' fifth season. The game places its events alongside the world of Tony Soprano's New Jersey organization, using characters and locations associated with the series while centering on a new protagonist.

Players control Joey LaRocca, a young enforcer working under Tony Soprano. Joey is introduced as the son of Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero, and his position in the organization is shaped by that connection. His campaign concerns efforts to establish himself within Tony's crew while navigating the consequences of his father's legacy. The story brings Joey into a conflict involving Tony's New Jersey group and an opposing Philadelphia organization led by Angelo Buscetta.

Road to Respect is structured as a linear, mission-based campaign. Assignments are introduced through encounters with characters from the series and take Joey through familiar settings including the Bada Bing and Satriale's. Early objectives involve work for the organization, such as collecting money and protecting its interests; later missions expand the dispute between the New Jersey and Philadelphia crews. The game uses scripted story progression rather than an open-world format.

Most missions use close-quarters action, with Joey able to chain melee attacks and make use of objects in the environment. Some encounters also use firearms through a third-person targeting system. A respect meter tracks the consequences of Joey's conduct: using a weapon in public can reduce his standing with the crew, and losing all respect ends the current attempt. This system connects the action to the game's emphasis on maintaining a place in the organization.

Conversations provide another part of the mission flow. At selected points, players choose how Joey responds to other characters, ranging from a confrontational approach to a smoother one. These choices can affect whether a discussion leads to a confrontation or reaches another outcome. Between story missions, the game also includes a Texas Hold 'Em poker minigame. Once available, it can be played with Tony, Christopher, and Paulie at the Bada Bing or from the main menu.

Several performers from the television series reprise their roles for the game's voice cast. James Gandolfini voices Tony Soprano, with Michael Imperioli as Christopher Moltisanti, Steven Van Zandt as Silvio Dante, Tony Sirico as Paulie Gualtieri, Robert Iler as A.J. Soprano, Joseph R. Gannascoli as Vito Spatafore, and Vincent Pastore as Sal Bonpensiero. Christian Maelen voices Joey LaRocca, while Monica Keena plays Trishelle and Robert Costanzo plays Angelo Buscetta. The credited story and script work is by Allen Rucker and Paul Golding.
