About

FIFA 13 for PlayStation 2 is EA Sports' 2012 football game, released on 28 September 2012 for Sony's long-running console. Developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts under the EA Sports label, it brings the FIFA series' licensed club-football presentation to a PlayStation 2 release that arrived late in the system's commercial life. It is a standalone PS2 edition of FIFA 13, rather than a direct match for the versions made for newer hardware.

The action is built around playing full football matches from a broadcast-style, elevated view of the pitch. Players take command of their chosen side, move the ball through passing and dribbling, contest possession, defend their goal and try to create scoring chances. Matches can be configured through the game's settings, while the basic exhibition format provides a quick way to select teams and take the field. The focus remains on the familiar FIFA rhythm of managing a complete eleven-a-side team during a match.

FIFA 13 PS2 also offers Be a Pro options that narrow control to one footballer or to the goalkeeper. Playing as an outfield professional shifts attention to positioning and contributing to the team while the other players are computer controlled; the goalkeeper option puts the player in the final defensive role. These modes provide a different perspective from directing the whole side and suit players who want to follow an individual role throughout a match.

Career Mode provides the longer-term structure. A career can be approached as a player, a player-manager, or a manager, combining fixtures with the responsibilities appropriate to that choice. The manager-oriented paths involve leading a club over time, while the player path keeps the emphasis on taking part on the pitch. Alongside the career game, the PlayStation 2 edition includes regular season and tournament play, plus a practice mode for spending time with the on-field controls outside a competitive schedule.

Another progression layer is Accomplishment Mode. Completing trophies and scenarios earns points for the Fan Shop, where the game makes additional content available, including stadiums, teams, footballs and third kits. This gives players objectives beyond an individual fixture and ties some customisation options to in-game accomplishments. Local same-screen multiplayer supports one or two players, making it possible to stage matches against another person on the same console as well as play solo.

The PlayStation 2 release has a distinct place within the many-platform FIFA 13 lineup. It retains an established earlier-generation foundation rather than the new feature set promoted for more powerful versions, while updating the club transfers and kits for the 2012 season. Its combination of exhibition matches, single-player career choices, tournaments, practice and unlockable extras makes FIFA 13 a late-era PS2 entry for players looking for a licensed football package built around the console's familiar FIFA framework.
