About
Pro Evolution Soccer 6 for PlayStation 2 is Konami's 2006 association-football game and the sixth numbered entry in the European Pro Evolution Soccer line. Released in Japan as World Soccer Winning Eleven 10 and later in North America as Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007, this PS2 edition presents club and international football with season-era squads, competition modes, and the series' deliberately measured, team-oriented style of play. It was developed and published by Konami for the PlayStation 2 generation, with related versions arriving on other systems, but the PS2 release is its own full feature set rather than a reduced portable adaptation.
Matches are played from a selection of broadcast-style camera views, with the player directing an eleven-a-side team through passing, shooting, dribbling, crossing, tackles, and goalkeeper play. The emphasis is on building attacks and reacting to the movement of teammates and opponents, so timing a pass or choosing when to hold the ball matters as much as taking a shot. Standard exhibition matches offer a direct way to choose sides and settings, while the game's options let players adjust match conditions and controller configuration to suit local play.
The PS2 game also supports both solo and multiplayer sessions, making its club and national-team selection useful for one-off fixtures as well as longer campaigns. League and cup play provide structured competitions, and Master League returns as the team's longer-form management mode. In Master League, the on-pitch football is paired with squad-building decisions and a continuing season format, turning individual matches into part of a broader attempt to improve and lead a side through its schedule.
Two PS2-specific additions broaden the tournament options. International Challenge lets the player guide an eligible national side through a condensed qualification campaign before the final international tournament, with squad call-ups between rounds. Random Selection Match takes a different approach: players choose clubs, national teams, or a league or region, then receive a computer-selected squad drawn from that pool. The result is a match built around unfamiliar combinations rather than a conventional fixed lineup.
PES 6 reflects football's 2006-07 period, but its licensing is selective. Konami included the French Ligue 1 license and licensed a number of national teams associated with the 2006 World Cup, while other clubs or competitions could appear with altered names and presentation. The edit facilities are therefore an important part of the PS2 package, allowing players to customize certain game elements. This combination of recognizable players, licensed material, and editable unlicensed content was characteristic of the series at the time.
The PlayStation 2 version should not be confused with the contemporary Xbox 360, PSP, Nintendo DS, or Windows releases. While they share the same installment, their modes and features differ; International Challenge and Random Selection Match are present in the PS2 game. PES 6 was followed by Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, and it closes the numbered naming convention used by the European series before later releases adopted year-based titles. For players exploring Konami's mid-2000s football catalogue, it remains a PS2 entry centered on tactical matches, varied competition formats, and flexible local play.
