About

Blood+ One Night Kiss is a PlayStation 2 action-adventure game released in Japan on August 31, 2006. Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Bandai Namco Games, it adapts the Blood+ television anime produced by Production I.G. Rather than retelling the whole series, the game presents a self-contained incident positioned after the anime's seventh episode and before Saya Otonashi leaves for Vietnam. Its story turns one dangerous evening in Shiki New Town into a playable mystery involving the blood-drinking Chiropterans.

Saya is the central figure of the Blood+ story: an apparently ordinary high-school student whose unusual blood and katana make her able to destroy the creatures threatening people around her. One Night Kiss sends her into Shiki New Town after the organization Red Shield receives reports of attacks by winged monsters. The setting is a compact urban location rather than the broad international journey of the television series, giving the game a focused, night-long premise built around uncovering what is happening in the town.

The adventure is told through two viewpoints. Players follow Saya's mission while also taking control of detective Aoyama, a character created for the game who is investigating the same disturbances. Aoyama's presence gives the story a second route into the case: he arrives seeking the cause of the emergency and encounters the monsters himself. The scenario moves between the two characters as events unfold, allowing their separate investigations to gradually connect around the crisis in Shiki New Town.

Gameplay combines exploration and combat. In the adventure-oriented portions, the player moves through locations, speaks with characters, and searches for information that advances the investigation. When the danger becomes immediate, the game shifts into action sequences against Chiropterans and other hostile opponents in enclosed areas. Saya relies on her sword in battle, while Aoyama fights with firearms, so the alternating leads also bring different weapons and perspectives to the game's confrontations.

Goichi Suda directed and wrote Blood+ One Night Kiss, and the game was produced during the original anime's broadcast so that its new story could fit into that period of the series. Grasshopper Manufacture describes it as an original scenario that deliberately switches between the Saya and Aoyama sections, with additional original characters beyond the anime cast. That approach makes the game a companion episode for viewers familiar with Blood+, while still giving the investigation its own plot, setting, and supporting cast.

Blood+ One Night Kiss was made specifically for the PlayStation 2 and released in Japan. It belongs to the wider Blood+ media project, but its principal appeal is its standalone account of a single unexplained outbreak: Saya's supernatural duty and Aoyama's police investigation begin separately, then converge as the pair pursue the source of the attacks. For fans of the series and of Grasshopper Manufacture's mid-2000s work, it preserves an original side story from the Blood+ era instead of simply replaying events from the animation.
