About

Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4 is Konami’s Japanese professional-baseball simulation for PlayStation 2, released in Japan on April 1, 2007. Known in Japanese as Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4 (プロ野球スピリッツ4), it is the fourth numbered entry in the Pro Yakyuu Spirits series and arrived alongside a PlayStation 3 version. The PS2 edition presents Nippon Professional Baseball through a more realistic visual style than Konami’s caricatured Power Pros games, with modeled players, stadium presentation, and a focus on the rhythm of a full ballgame.

The game is built around the familiar contest between pitcher and batter, then expands that contest into fielding, baserunning, and team play. At the plate, players position a bat-shaped hitting cursor and time contact, so the point of contact affects the ball’s direction. On the mound, pitching asks the player to select a pitch and time the delivery precisely. Those systems make count management, pitch selection, and the placement of batted balls central to each at-bat rather than treating every swing as a simple button press.

Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4 includes the 12 Nippon Professional Baseball clubs as well as Central League and Pacific League All-Star selections. Its season-opening 2007 data accounts for notable newcomers and transfers, while the game’s ballpark advertising was generally modeled from the 2006 NPB pennant season. That period-specific detail makes the roster and presentation a snapshot of Japanese baseball at the beginning of the 2007 campaign, rather than a generic collection of fictional teams.

Players can choose an approachable Prospi introductory setting or raise the challenge through adjustable difficulty and gameplay options, including game and pitch speed. The upper Spirits setting is intended for players who want tougher computer opposition. Standard matches support one or two players, and the game also offers a mode centered on taking the role of an individual player, plus cooperative play options. This range lets a session be either a quick exhibition game or a more focused attempt to control one player’s performance.

As a follow-up to Pro Yakyuu Spirits 3, Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4 continued Konami’s annual baseball line with PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 editions. The PS2 version is especially notable as a late-generation Japanese baseball release: it pairs an established simulation formula with the current NPB teams and opening-season data of its year. For players interested in the series’ numbered era, it preserves the transition between Konami’s long-running PS2 support and the franchise’s early PlayStation 3 releases.
