About

Di Gi Charat Fantasy Excellent is a Japanese PlayStation 2 visual-novel adventure from developer M2 and publisher Broccoli, released in Japan on November 20, 2003. Its Japanese title is デ・ジ・キャラット ファンタジー エクセレント. The game is the PS2 version of Di Gi Charat Fantasy, adapting Broccoli's character franchise into a story-led fantasy adventure rather than a competitive or action-focused game. It is a single-player release on DVD-ROM and retains the anime-inspired presentation associated with Di Gi Charat.

The story begins when an enormous blast from Dejiko's signature Eye Beam sends the player character and the Di Gi Charat cast into an unfamiliar world. The protagonist, a boy, becomes separated from the others and encounters Dejiko in a forest. She has lost her memory in the accident, changing the immediate goal from simply escaping the new setting to helping her recover what she has forgotten. Their journey is framed by the need to understand the incident and find a way back to Akihabara.

As an adventure-style digital novel, Di Gi Charat Fantasy Excellent puts its emphasis on reading scenes, following conversations, and making selections as the story moves from place to place. Players travel with Dejiko, meet characters, and investigate the strange fantasy setting through a menu-driven progression structure. The game uses character dialogue, illustrated story moments, and animated sequences to carry its narrative, giving the player a different perspective on Dejiko from her usual energetic comic-role persona.

Dejiko is joined by familiar Di Gi Charat figures including Puchiko and Rabi-en-Rose. Their appearance ties the game to the franchise's Akihabara and Gamers roots, while the alternate-world premise gives the cast a distinct setting and problem to confront. The amnesia plot is particularly central to the game: the player’s relationship with Dejiko develops through the effort to restore her memories and continue the search for the group’s route home. This makes the title a character-focused entry built around the established Di Gi Charat cast.

Excellent distinguishes the PS2 release from the earlier Di Gi Charat Fantasy versions with enhanced full-motion video material and additional voice work made possible by the DVD-ROM format. It also adds a PlayStation 2-exclusive original scenario involving the Black Gema Gema Gang. With more than 200 original illustrations and CG images recorded for the release, Di Gi Charat Fantasy Excellent stands as the expanded 2003 console edition of Broccoli's fantasy visual-novel adaptation for Japanese PS2 players.
