About

BS Super Mario USA Power Challenge is a Japanese Satellaview SoundLink game built from Super Mario USA as it appeared in Super Mario Collection. It was created for broadcast play rather than a standard cartridge release.

The original run unfolded in four weekly episodes from March 31 through April 26, 1996. Each episode centered on one selected world: the first, second, fourth, or fifth world of the source game.

Players had a limited broadcast session, with the on-screen clock ending the episode at 50 minutes. Within an episode, they progressed through its stages and could use the level-selection screen after clearing them.

The broadcast version introduced golden Mario statues, including statues placed in Subspace. Collecting a statue restored the life meter and awarded an extra life, while the game also tracked score and collection results.

Its SoundLink presentation paired the action with a serialized, voiced radio-drama story transmitted during the broadcast. The story returns Mario and his companions to Subcon to oppose Wart's forces and recover the golden Mario statues.
