About

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for Game Boy Advance is a 2005 action-adventure game developed by Magic Pockets and published by EA Games. Based on the fourth Harry Potter story and its film adaptation, this handheld version follows Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger through a condensed, level-based journey from the Quidditch World Cup to the Triwizard Tournament. It shares the title and central premise of the console releases, but it is a separate portable game built around an overhead view, two-dimensional exploration and puzzle solving.

The story begins as Harry enters his fourth year at Hogwarts and is unexpectedly chosen to compete in the dangerous Triwizard Tournament. The adventure takes the trio through familiar situations and locations inspired by the tale, including the World Cup campsite, Hogwarts, the Forbidden Forest, the Black Lake and the tournament's final hedge maze. The game presents these moments as a sequence of self-contained missions rather than an open castle to roam, keeping the focus on finding a route through each obstacle-filled area.

Players control one member of the trio at a time while the other two accompany them under computer control in single-player. Combat and exploration both rely on magic: a basic attack can deal with hostile creatures, while context-sensitive spells manipulate the environment. Wingardium Leviosa can shift objects and platforms, Reparo can restore damaged containers, and other charms gradually expand the group’s options. The compact GBA control scheme assigns this growing spell set to only a pair of face buttons, choosing the appropriate magic for the nearby target.

Cooperation is central to many of the game’s puzzles. Some barriers, heavy objects and larger hazards cannot be handled by one young wizard alone, so Harry, Ron and Hermione must combine their casting power. The shoulder button can call the companions over for assistance, while their computer-controlled behavior also lets them attack enemies and collect nearby items. A link-enabled multiplayer option allows friends to take part together, making the shared spellcasting idea part of both the campaign and selected challenges.

Each large map mixes fights with environmental problems, blocked paths and treasure. Players encounter magical creatures such as dugbogs, bowtruckles, fire salamanders, red caps and fire crabs, whose defenses can require more than simply firing a spell. Triwizard Shields help open further stages, encouraging returns to earlier areas once new spells have made previously unreachable routes accessible. Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans and collectible cards provide additional reasons to explore side passages and revisit completed levels.

The three Triwizard tasks supply some of the game’s biggest changes of pace. Harry takes to a broom to evade a Hungarian Horntail, dives beneath the Black Lake to rescue a friend and faces the hazards of the maze. There is also a rhythm-based Yule Ball sequence in which button presses follow the music. These diversions sit alongside the main top-down action rather than turning Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire GBA into a direct counterpart to the third-person GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PSP and PC versions.

Released in North America on November 8, 2005, with a European release following that November, the Game Boy Advance edition belongs to the era when major film tie-ins often received purpose-built handheld adaptations. Magic Pockets used the system’s portable format for isometric-style maps, pre-rendered scenery and a camera that can scroll toward important objects or threats at the edge of the play area. For players seeking the Game Boy Advance version specifically, its spell-driven puzzles, companion teamwork and replayable search for shields and cards define an adventure that is meaningfully different from the other Goblet of Fire games.
