About
FIFA Soccer 06 for Game Boy Advance brings EA Sports’ 2005 football season to Nintendo’s handheld in a compact, licensed simulation. Developed by Exient Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts under the EA Sports label, it was released in North America in October 2005, while Nintendo lists the European Game Boy Advance release for September 23, 2005. It is the handheld edition of FIFA 06, known as FIFA Soccer 06 in North America, and it belongs to EA’s long-running FIFA series rather than being a conversion of the home-console game.
Matches are presented from an angled, top-down view built for the Game Boy Advance screen. Players direct a footballer around the pitch, move the ball through passing, and look for an opening to shoot, while the opposing side contests possession with tackles and defensive positioning. The focus is on the flow of a full football match: choosing when to advance, releasing a pass before a defender closes in, and trying to turn pressure near goal into a finish. The portable format makes it possible to play a standalone fixture or settle into a longer competition without leaving the GBA library behind.
FIFA Soccer 06 uses the official FIFA license and includes real-world clubs, national teams, leagues, and player names from its era. The selection puts familiar sides such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona, and Juventus alongside international football, giving exhibition fixtures a recognisable 2005–06-season backdrop. Licensed presentation was a central part of the FIFA identity, and the GBA game carries that approach into its smaller-scale on-field design instead of inventing a separate fictional league.
There is more to do than pick two teams for a quick match. Season and Career modes let players guide a club through a campaign in pursuit of trophies, while tournament play offers a way to compete for honours under a chosen event format. The game also includes 19 tournaments and FIFA 06 Challenges, a set of short objectives that reward successful play with unlockable bonuses. Those options give the cartridge a mixture of immediate matches, structured cup competition, and goals to revisit after a standard fixture is over.
As a Game Boy Advance entry, FIFA Soccer 06 is best understood on its own terms. The larger FIFA 06 release had separate versions across several systems, with different developers and features, so claims about their engines, career-management details, or multiplayer modes do not automatically describe this edition. Exient’s GBA game instead adapts the series’ core combination of licensed football, club and international selection, passing-and-shooting action, seasons, tournaments, and challenges for a dedicated handheld release. For players exploring late-period Game Boy Advance sports games, it captures the annual FIFA formula in a version designed around the system’s portable hardware.
