About
Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu for Game Boy Advance is a 2003 Batman action game from Ubisoft, released in North America on October 27. This handheld adaptation follows Gotham City’s protector as a crisis erupts on the anniversary of Bruce Wayne’s parents’ murder. Although it shares a title and major story elements with the console release, the GBA game is built as a single-player, side-view 2D platformer and beat-’em-up, tailored to the portable system rather than a duplicate of the console brawler.
Players guide Batman through Gotham locations, advancing by moving across streets, rooftops, industrial spaces, and other obstacle-filled areas while stopping criminals in close combat. Encounters center on direct fights with common enemies, with Batman able to use martial-arts attacks alongside familiar equipment. The Batarang, grappling hook, and smoke bomb give the character tools beyond basic punches, while environmental objects can also be turned against opponents when they are available.
Platforming is part of the game’s route through Gotham rather than a break from the action. Batman jumps gaps and hazards, travels over elevated scenery, and must interact with features such as levers to open the way ahead. This combination of traversal, switches, combat, and gadget use distinguishes the Game Boy Advance version’s side-scrolling design from the 3D console game released under the same name.
The campaign introduces Sin Tzu, a new adversary created for the project and designed by comic artist Jim Lee. Gotham’s disorder also brings Batman into conflict with established villains including Scarecrow, Clayface, and Bane. The game therefore uses a familiar Batman setting and rogues’ gallery while placing the original Sin Tzu at the center of its threat to the city.
Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu arrived during Ubisoft’s early-2000s run of Batman games and was licensed by DC Comics and Warner Bros. Its Game Boy Advance release carried an Everyone rating in North America and supports one player. For players with compatible hardware, the handheld game also had a GameCube–Game Boy Advance link feature: progress in the GBA version could unlock content such as thug galleries and bonus points for the GameCube edition.
As a Game Boy Advance entry, Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu presents its story through a compact, portable action format. Its focus is Batman alone, navigating 2D stages, overcoming platform obstacles, and confronting Gotham’s criminals with hand-to-hand attacks and gadgets. That platform-specific approach makes it a separate experience for fans looking for a handheld Batman adventure from the 2003 release period.
