About

Mortal Kombat 3 for Game Boy is a 1995 handheld adaptation of Midway's arcade fighter, developed by Software Creations and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It follows Shao Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm after Sindel's resurrection, with the surviving warriors fighting to stop him.

The portable version keeps the series' one-on-one, best-of-three-round battles, character-specific special moves, blocking, a limited run meter, and the chance to finish a defeated opponent. Fatalities and Babalities remain, while the simple two-button Game Boy controls compress the arcade control scheme.

Eight fighters are available immediately: Kano, Sonya, Sektor, Sindel, Sub-Zero, Sheeva, Cyrax, and Kabal. Smoke is a hidden combatant unlocked with a code, and Shao Kahn is the final boss. Each fighter has an ending after completing a selected single-player tower.

There are three tower lengths, sending the player through four, six, or eight opponents before Shao Kahn. The game uses five stages—The Pit, The Bridge, The Subway, The Temple, and The Bell Tower—and an uppercut from The Subway can send a match up to The Bridge.

This is a substantially reduced conversion rather than a full arcade replica. It omits Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Jax, Nightwolf, Stryker, and the Motaro sub-boss, has far fewer arenas, and leaves out the arcade version's dial-a-combo system. Later revisions such as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 expanded the broader MK3 roster, but they are separate releases from this Game Boy cartridge.
