About
Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight is a 1990 NES action-platform game from Capcom, released in Japan as 2010 Street Fighter. Although its name connects it to Capcom’s fighting-game brand, Street Fighter 2010 NES plays as a single-player science-fiction adventure viewed from the side rather than a tournament fighter. The North American release places the story in the distant future and casts its hero as Ken, a former street-fighting champion turned scientist. After his research partner Troy is apparently killed and their strength-enhancing Cyboplasm formula is stolen, Ken equips himself with bionics and sets out across the galaxy to find the culprit.
The Japanese Famicom version presents the same game under a notably different story. Its protagonist is Kevin Straker, a cyborg officer working for the Galaxy Police, while the scientist tied to the crisis is Dr. Jose. The U.S. localization changed names and background details to associate its hero with Ken from the original Street Fighter, but the stages, action, and underlying structure remain the same. That regional distinction makes Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight an unusual early Capcom release: its title and localization connect it to a famous series, while its gameplay is built around futuristic running, jumping, shooting, and survival.
Each area begins with a target to eliminate. Ken moves through hazardous alien environments, battling creatures and searching for the energy needed to activate the portal to the next destination. Once a portal opens, there is only a short window in which to enter it, so defeating the objective is only part of the task; players also have to stay alive and reach the exit in time. The game uses the NES directional pad for movement, an A-button jump, and a B-button attack, with stage layouts demanding careful placement around enemies, drops, and obstacles.
Combat is more flexible than the game’s simple two-button controls initially suggest. The hero fires energy shots from his fists, and directional inputs alter their trajectory: shots can travel straight, upward, in arcs, or diagonally upward from a low attack. He can climb certain walls, poles, and ledges, and a backward flip jump provides another way to reposition during attacks. Breakable containers may reveal capsules that improve the strength and reach of the projectile; collecting enough raises the firing level, while taking damage reduces it. Other capsules add an assisting option or a shield effect during flip jumps, giving item collection a direct role in a player’s offensive capability.
Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight advances through a sequence of interplanetary stages whose targets and enemy patterns keep the focus on fast action rather than exploration alone. The character’s limited durability, time-sensitive exits, and loss of weapon power after damage give its progression a demanding arcade-like rhythm. It is a one-player NES game designed by and published under Capcom’s banner, and it later returned as the original NES version through Virtual Console releases on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. For players searching for Street Fighter 2010 NES, it stands as a distinctive science-fiction action-platformer with a memorable regional rewrite and a control system built around agile movement and directional energy attacks.
