About

V.I.P. for PlayStation is a 2001 single-player action game based on the syndicated television series V.I.P., with Pamela Anderson's Vallery Irons at the center of its Los Angeles bodyguard story. Published by Ubisoft and developed by Ubisoft Shanghai, it casts the agency in an original rescue mission involving a kidnapped cosmetic surgeon and a notorious local mobster. This PlayStation release is a distinct version of the licence, rather than the side-scrolling Game Boy games or the later PlayStation 2 edition.

The playable team draws from the agency's principal field operatives: Vallery Irons, Tasha Dexter, Nikki Franco, Quick Williams and Johnny Loh. Missions move the group through a succession of crime-busting situations as they close in on the surgeon and confront the mobsters standing in their way. The game presents its campaign as an interactive episode, keeping the focus on the television show's mix of celebrity-centered action and light, tongue-in-cheek presentation.

Its main encounters use a timed command system instead of a conventional free-roaming brawler setup. When a foe approaches, the game displays a sequence of controller-button prompts; entering them in order lets the chosen operative attack, counter, or continue a combination. Success depends on reading the prompts and responding quickly, so hand-to-hand scenes have a rhythmic, reaction-based structure. Completing encounters and objectives advances the story from one mission to the next.

V.I.P. also changes pace with shooting segments. These sequences put a target reticle on screen for picking out hostile characters and firing, adding an arcade-style complement to the command-driven combat. More than ten minigames appear alongside the main missions, supplying short timed challenges between larger action scenes. Progress is divided into missions, and the PlayStation game supports one player.

The release arrived as part of Ubisoft's wider V.I.P. game programme, which adapted the same TV property for several systems. Contemporary announcements initially grouped the PlayStation version with planned PC and Dreamcast releases, while the finished PlayStation game credits Ubisoft Shanghai as its developer. Other regional packaging used longer names such as V.I.P.: Starring Pamela Anderson as Vallery Irons and Vallery Irons Protection: The Game, but the core PlayStation adventure remains a licensed, mission-based action game built around Vallery and her team.
