About

Obscure: The Aftermath for PSP is a 2009 portable survival-horror adventure from Hydravision Entertainment, published by Playlogic in PAL territories. Known as ObsCure II in some regions, it is the sequel to 2004's Obscure and returns to a world scarred by the previous game's Leafmore High disaster. The PSP edition brings the series' cinematic, third-person horror to Sony's handheld, placing a group of students in another outbreak that begins around Fallcreek University.

The story takes place two years after the Leafmore incident, when several survivors have tried to resume ordinary lives. Shannon and Kenny Matthews attend Fallcreek, while Stan Jones has left school behind, but the past is not safely buried. Strange black flowers appear around the university and a new drug connected to them spreads through the student body. The crisis rapidly turns the campus and its surrounding locations into hostile ground, drawing old survivors and new students into a fight to understand the source of the infection and escape it.

Obscure: The Aftermath PSP combines exploration, environmental puzzles, item collection, and combat against mutated creatures. Players guide two characters at a time through dark interiors and outdoor areas, searching rooms, finding routes, collecting useful supplies, and using weapons when encounters break out. The game’s fixed cinematic camera perspectives and survival-horror pacing make navigation part of the tension: ammunition and healing resources matter, while advancing often depends on examining the environment rather than simply clearing every enemy.

There are six playable students, and their individual aptitudes affect how a team moves forward. Certain obstacles call for abilities such as strength, agility, or technical know-how, encouraging players to consider who is accompanying them before tackling a route. In solo play, the second character is controlled by the game and the player can switch between the pair when a situation calls for a different skill. This two-character structure distinguishes the sequel from a purely lone-survivor horror game and makes cooperation central to both combat and puzzle solving.

The PSP version also supports two-player cooperative play through the system's ad-hoc connection. A second player can join the campaign to control the companion character, turning the paired exploration and combat into a shared portable experience. That mode preserves the campaign's focus on keeping a partner alive while working through obstacles, and it gives the players separate control rather than relying entirely on the computer-controlled ally. The core single-player campaign remains available for those progressing with the AI partner.

As a follow-up to Obscure, The Aftermath expands the setting from a single school nightmare to a college-centered outbreak and keeps the series' blend of teenage characters, creature horror, and investigation. Its PSP release arrived after the original Windows, PlayStation 2, and Wii versions, allowing the 2007 sequel to reach a handheld audience in 2009. For players looking for a PSP survival-horror game with a campaign designed around pairs of characters, environmental problem-solving, and ad-hoc cooperative play, Obscure: The Aftermath offers a distinctive entry in the system's horror catalog.
