About

NBA 2K13 PSP brings 2K Sports’ licensed pro-basketball series to Sony’s PlayStation Portable for the 2012–13 NBA season. Developed for the handheld by Virtuos and published by 2K Sports, it arrived in North America on October 2, 2012, alongside versions for larger home systems. The PSP release belongs to the fourteenth main NBA 2K game and follows NBA 2K12, presenting NBA teams, players, uniforms and arenas in a compact basketball simulation built around the controls of the portable.

At its center is five-on-five NBA basketball. Players choose a team, call plays, move the ball through passing and dribbling, create room for a shot, and try to manage the other end of the floor with positioning, steals, blocks and rebounding. The face buttons handle the immediate actions expected from a handheld sports game, while the PSP’s shoulder buttons and analog nub expand the choices available for defensive pressure, player movement and shot or dribble actions. Tutorials and practice-oriented options help explain the control vocabulary before players take it into an exhibition matchup or a longer season.

The game’s season-focused modes offer several ways to approach the league. Association puts the player in charge of a club across an NBA schedule, while a created-player career lets an original athlete pursue a place in the league and develop over time. Create a Legend shifts that career-style perspective to an established NBA player instead. These alternatives make the same on-court rules serve different goals: controlling every possession for a favorite franchise, guiding one player’s contribution, or advancing through the changing circumstances of a season.

NBA 2K13 PSP also includes basketball away from the standard NBA schedule. Blacktop moves NBA talent to a street-court setting for smaller-sided games, providing a more compact change of pace from the full five-player simulation. Roster and team management options support the official 2012–13 context, and the game’s presentation draws on the season’s league branding, player likenesses and broadcast-style atmosphere. The cover art associated with NBA 2K13 features Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose, three of the era’s marquee players.

This PSP version should be considered on its own rather than treated as a portable copy of every feature on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii or Wii U. Those editions were built by different teams and hardware targets, and several headline extras announced for other platforms, including particular downloadable content and platform-specific online functions, were not automatically part of the handheld release. Virtuos instead adapted the series’ established portable framework, preserving its NBA game types and local multiplayer possibilities within the PSP’s single analog control and smaller screen.

The wider NBA 2K13 project was executive produced by Jay-Z, whose involvement extended to the game’s visual presentation and music selection. That broader identity is reflected in the PSP release’s contemporary presentation, even as its technical scope differs from the console editions. For PSP owners, NBA 2K13 marked the end of the main NBA 2K line on Sony’s pure handheld: a late-generation entry that packages licensed teams, multiple season paths and street basketball into one portable NBA game.
