About

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End for PSP is a 2007 action-adventure game developed by Eurocom and published by Disney Interactive Studios. Released alongside the film of the same name, this PlayStation Portable entry draws material from both Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, placing Captain Jack Sparrow at the center of a Caribbean conflict involving Davy Jones, the East India Trading Company, and the pirates resisting them. It is a handheld version of Disney’s multi-platform movie tie-in, built around story-led swashbuckling rather than simply retelling one film.

Story Mode sends players through chapters inspired by locations and events from the two films. Jack Sparrow is the principal playable pirate, while Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and Captain Barbossa also take part; clearing stages unlocks characters for replay. The journey moves through a fantasy Caribbean of forts, ports, islands, ships, and pirate hideouts as the cast pursues allies, confronts enemies, and works toward the wider struggle surrounding Davy Jones. The game expands the film material with its own missions and encounters while retaining familiar figures and sea-faring imagery from the series.

Swordfighting is the foundation of play. Players mix quick and powerful attacks, use close-range moves such as grabs, kicks, and distractions, and select from character-specific combo attacks for different situations. Holding a defensive stance allows strafing and automatic protection from the nearest opponent, while special maneuvers include stuns, sidesteps, kicks, and counters. The environment can matter in a fight as well: positioning an opponent near a wall, open barrel, or drop can create an advantage. This emphasis on timing and movement gives the PSP game more to consider than repeated attacks alone.

Defense is limited by the Black Pearls meter. Blocking and special moves consume this stamina resource, and a character who exhausts it cannot keep guarding or perform those maneuvers until it refills. That creates a practical rhythm between attacking, defending, and backing off rather than allowing constant blocking. Players can also use secondary items found during play, while ally sequences and Jackanism events introduce context-sensitive prompts and actions that fit the series’ comic, improvisational tone.

Progress is not limited to reaching the end of each story chapter. Sub-missions and hidden areas provide reasons to revisit completed levels, and the game tracks overall, level, and combat notoriety. Notoriety rises through such actions as defeating opponents, varying swordplay tactics, completing optional tasks, and triggering special events. Its ranks range from Poor to Legendary Pirate, turning a pirate reputation into a visible measure of performance. Treasure Cove rewards and other unlocks include playable characters, concept art, game modes, and charm cards for the game’s card-based diversions.

Those diversions are a notable part of the PSP release. Poker and Pirate Dice can appear during Story Mode or be played separately without risking accumulated loot, while Davy’s Hearts is unlocked through the campaign. The manual identifies Poker as being based on Texas Hold ’Em rules. Mini-games support both solo play and wireless multiplayer for two to four nearby PSP systems through Ad Hoc Mode; Game Sharing also lets one UMD provide a simplified mini-game experience to other participants. These options make the handheld edition more than a single-player action campaign.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End arrived in North America on May 22, 2007, with a UK release following that May 25. Eurocom also developed the contemporary PSP edition while a separate developer handled the Nintendo DS game, so it should not be confused with that distinct handheld version. For fans looking for a PSP Pirates of the Caribbean game, At World’s End combines film-inspired adventure, measured cutlass combat, optional challenges, and local multiplayer pirate games in one portable package.
