About
Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 for PSP is Konami’s 2013 association-football game for Sony’s portable system, bringing the long-running Pro Evolution Soccer series to handheld play. Released in Europe in November 2013 and issued in Japan as World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2014, it lets players take control of club and national sides in exhibition matches, league and cup competitions, and longer career-style modes. Konami developed and published the game, continuing a yearly series known for its emphasis on passing, positioning, and direct player control.
A match is played from a broadcast-style overhead camera, with the PSP’s analogue nub moving the selected footballer and the face buttons handling passes, shots, crosses, tackles, and pressure. The player must read space, choose the weight and direction of a pass, switch defenders at the right moment, and build attacks rather than merely race toward goal. Team formations, starting line-ups, player roles, and tactical settings can be adjusted before play, allowing different approaches such as compact defending, wide attacks, or a passing game through midfield.
The game supports one-player and local multiplayer sessions, so a single PSP can be used for matches against the computer while compatible handhelds can be brought together for competitive games. Its match options make room for quick friendlies as well as more deliberate tournament play. The core appeal remains the contest on the pitch: retaining possession under pressure, finding a runner with a through ball, defending set pieces, and turning a limited opening into a goal.
For longer play, Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 PSP includes the series’ familiar football-management and player-career ideas, including Master League and Become a Legend. Master League puts the focus on guiding a club through seasons, assembling a squad and pursuing domestic and continental success. Become a Legend shifts the viewpoint to one footballer, following that player’s career rather than controlling every decision for an entire team. League and cup options provide further ways to structure a season or stage a competition around selected sides.
Licensing is an important part of this period of PES. The 2014 edition retained official UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup branding, giving its European club competitions recognizable presentation. The overall roster and team selection also mix licensed content with teams and players presented under altered names or details where rights were unavailable, a common feature of the series. The Japan release used the World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2014 name, linking the handheld game to Konami’s regional identity for the franchise.
This PSP version arrived late in the system’s lifespan, after years in which Pro Evolution Soccer had been a regular portable football option. It is consequently a snapshot of the 2013–14 football season and of Konami’s approach to taking its simulation series on the road: substantial match customization, recognizable competitions, and career-oriented modes within a handheld format. It also sits directly between Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, making it the 2014 chapter of a series that later continued under the eFootball name.
