About

Ghostbusters: The Video Game for PSP brings the 2009 Ghostbusters adventure to Sony's handheld in a version developed by Red Fly Studio. Released in late 2009, it casts the player as a newly recruited member of New York City's paranormal-extermination business, working alongside Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore. The story takes place in 1991, two years after Ghostbusters II, and reunites the film team with performances from Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson. Atari handled the North American release, while Sony Computer Entertainment Europe published the PSP edition in Europe.

The central task is recognizably Ghostbusters work: investigate a disturbance, track down its source, weaken hostile spirits with a Proton Pack, and secure them in a ghost trap. The Rookie carries the experimental gear, while the familiar crew supplies radio chatter, jokes, and assistance during missions. The PSP game also uses the PKE Meter and goggles to help locate paranormal activity and examine the supernatural world around the player. Combat is built around managing the Proton Pack rather than a conventional firearm, so keeping a ghost under control and timing a capture are as important as simply aiming.

This handheld release follows the same broad 1991 storyline as the other console versions, but it is not a scaled-down copy of the PS3, Xbox 360, or PC game. Red Fly created the PSP version alongside the PlayStation 2 and Wii editions, giving it a more stylized visual presentation and its own level design and gameplay details. Its campaign sends the Ghostbusters through New York locations associated with the films and introduces an escalating paranormal threat connected to the city's past. Slimer, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Janine Melnitz, Walter Peck, and other familiar faces all have a place in the adventure.

Ghost capture has a particular twist on PSP. Once a ghost is sufficiently weakened, the game turns the struggle to slam it into an input-matching challenge, requiring players to follow prompted commands before finishing the job with a trap. That distinction separates the PSP, PS2, and Wii design from the more physics-driven capture approach used in the high-definition versions. The player can also choose a male or female Rookie, a small but meaningful variation on the otherwise anonymous new recruit who serves as the team's test subject for its risky equipment.

The narrative expands on the events and lore of the first two Ghostbusters films instead of retelling either movie. As the strange activity spreading through the city grows more serious, the Rookie and veteran Ghostbusters investigate haunted landmarks, occult clues, and a threat tied to Ivo Shandor and Gozerian history. The game blends original characters and situations with recognisable film-era details, including the firehouse headquarters, ghost traps, proton streams, and the team's uneasy relationship with official oversight.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game PSP is a single-player action-adventure built for fans who wanted a portable trip back into the original film continuity. Its development is especially notable because the handheld game belongs to a separate branch of the 2009 release: Red Fly Studio's PSP, PS2, and Wii adaptation shares its premise with the Terminal Reality version while presenting a different play experience. With its returning cast, supernatural New York setting, and ghost-catching loop, it remains a distinctive PSP entry in the larger Ghostbusters game series.
