About
Gods Eater Burst for PSP is the expanded Western release of the 2010 Japanese action RPG God Eater. Developed by Shift and published by Bandai Namco in Japan, it arrived there as God Eater Burst in October 2010; D3 Publisher brought the localized Gods Eater Burst to North America in March 2011, with a European release following shortly afterward. The PSP game combines mission-based monster hunting with a near-future disaster story, placing a player-created recruit in the Fenrir organization’s Far East Branch.
The setting is 2071, after creatures called Aragami have devastated civilization. These beings are made from Oracle Cells and ordinary weapons cannot reliably stop them, so Fenrir’s God Eaters fight with living, cell-based arms known as God Arcs. The new recruit joins First Unit alongside characters including Lindow Amamiya, Sakuya Tachibana, Soma Schicksal, Kota Fujiki, and the newly assigned Alisa. What begins as work protecting the remains of the former Tokyo area gradually leads into Fenrir’s secrets and the threat surrounding the Aegis Project.
Each assignment sends a squad into a contained field to eliminate designated Aragami or fulfill another objective before the clock expires. The player can take computer-controlled allies on solo missions, or join up to three other players through PSP ad hoc multiplayer. Mission rewards and harvested materials feed back into the next hunt, letting players make and improve God Arc equipment and related parts. Character creation also lets a new God Eater be customized before the story begins.
Combat revolves around a New-Type God Arc that changes between blade, gun, shield, and Predator forms. Blade attacks consume stamina but help replenish Oracle Points used to fire in gun form, while the shield provides a defensive option. The Predator form is central to the loop: devouring an Aragami can collect materials, provide an Aragami Bullet, and trigger Burst Mode. Burst improves the hunter’s combat performance, and Aragami Bullets can also be used to share the effect with teammates through Link Burst, giving cooperative encounters a reason to coordinate attacks rather than simply surround a target.
Gods Eater Burst contains the original God Eater campaign and adds a further story arc, new content, and adjustments to the earlier game’s action systems. Its PSP release was also offered in Japan as an Append Edition for owners of the first game, while the overseas version used the pluralized title Gods Eater Burst. The title is specifically the enhanced PSP version, not the later God Eater Resurrection remake, whose revised systems and additional content belong to a different release.
As an early entry in the God Eater series, Gods Eater Burst establishes Fenrir, the Aragami, the God Arc, and the team-focused hunt structure that later installments would continue. Its blend of rapid close-range action, ranged resource management, equipment crafting, and cooperative support gives the PSP game a distinct identity within its post-apocalyptic hunting setting. For players exploring the series’ origins, this release preserves both the foundation of God Eater and the expanded Burst chapter created for the original portable game.
