About
Family Guy PSP is the 2006 single-player action-adventure based on the animated Fox comedy. Developed by High Voltage Software and published by 2K Games, it arrived in North America for Sony's PlayStation Portable on October 17, 2006, alongside PlayStation 2 and Xbox editions. This is the original Family Guy console game, not the later Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse. It places the Griffin family in a new, separate adventure set around Quahog, using the show's characters, voice performers, and irreverent style as the foundation for a mix of action, platforming, stealth, and quick comic interludes.
The campaign is divided into 22 levels and alternates among Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, and Brian Griffin. Each character has an individual story that eventually intersects with the others, so changing protagonists also means changing the style of play. Rather than putting the whole cast into one uniform action format, the game gives Peter brawling stages, Stewie shooting-and-platforming challenges, and Brian stealth-focused escapes. The result is a sequence of distinct episodes that moves between familiar Quahog locations and character-specific predicaments.
Stewie's route begins with a battle of schemes against his half-brother and rival Bertram. He uses a ray gun in platform-oriented stages, can aim at enemies, and gathers parts to improve the weapon with additional attacks. Traversal calls for jumping and using environmental hooks, while the Mind Controller Device lets Stewie take temporary command of other characters when a puzzle requires a particular ability. Those short changes of perspective make his levels the most gadget-driven part of the game, blending shooting, movement, and simple environmental problem solving into his world-domination plot.
Peter's stages take a more direct approach. They are side-scrolling beat-'em-up sequences in which he punches and kicks through groups of opponents while pursuing the supposed threat of Mr. Belvedere. Food dropped during the action fills a snack meter that can enable special attacks, and repeated blows to Peter's head alter the persona he believes himself to be. Those transformations change his presentation and animations as the story grows more absurd, while the core task remains clearing the route ahead and reaching the next piece of his increasingly confused quest.
Brian's story changes the pace again. Framed for impregnating Carter Pewterschmidt's prized racing greyhound, he must get out of prison and follow clues to clear his name. Brian does not rely on a standard combat move set; his levels are built around staying out of sight, watching guards and other characters, using disguises, and finding a safe path forward. His canine habits can also complicate a stealth situation, giving this branch a deliberately different rhythm from Stewie's gadgets and Peter's crowd fights.
Between the main stages, Family Guy PSP breaks into brief cutaway-style minigames that echo the series' non sequitur jokes. Successful diversions award a useful bonus for the active character, such as weapon parts for Stewie, a snack-meter benefit for Peter, or temporary invisibility for Brian. The presentation was made to resemble the show through cel-shaded scenes, familiar music and framing, and dialogue written with involvement from the television creative team. Seth MacFarlane voices Peter, Stewie, and Brian, with other cast members returning for characters including Lois, Meg, Chris, and Mayor Adam West.
The PSP version is a portable release of this 2006 Family Guy adventure rather than a separate handheld story. It remains strictly a one-player game with no online multiplayer, and its Mature rating reflects the adult humor, violence, and content associated with the television series. Regional releases followed in Europe and Australia later that year. For players looking for a Family Guy game that concentrates on Peter, Stewie, and Brian in three intersecting comic plots, the PSP edition preserves the original game's varied character-led structure on the PlayStation Portable.
