About

Diner Dash for PSP is the 2007 handheld edition of PlayFirst's restaurant time-management series, released in North America as Diner Dash: Sizzle & Serve and published by Eidos Interactive. Developed by Climax Studios from the original GameLab and PlayFirst concept, it puts the player in charge of Flo, a former office worker building a career in food service. Rather than cooking dishes directly, the challenge is to coordinate a busy dining room, make quick decisions, and keep every part of a restaurant shift moving.

Each level turns a restaurant into a compact scheduling puzzle. Parties arrive in a queue, and players choose where to seat them before directing Flo to take orders, deliver them to the ticket station, collect finished dishes from the counter, serve the proper table, take payment, and clear the plates at the bus station. The PSP uses a cursor-and-button control scheme for selecting customers, tables, amenities, and Flo's destinations, so success depends on planning routes and deciding which demand deserves attention first.

Customer happiness is central to every shift. Waiting groups can grow impatient, while diners already at a table may need their order, food, bill, or a little extra attention. The game introduces tools that help manage the pressure: a bench can hold a waiting party, the podium improves the mood of people in the line, and drinks, snacks, desserts, highchairs, and a mop address particular situations. Reservations require their designated table to be ready on time, and the phone station can summon staff or entertainers when the restaurant becomes especially hectic.

Career mode begins with Flo in a small diner and carries her through five themed restaurants. Players must complete a restaurant's levels to advance, pursuing both the standard target and the higher Expert target shown by the tips jar. Strong performance matters beyond a single stage: earning Expert scores on at least five levels in a restaurant opens four levels in a sixth bonus location. The campaign format gives the familiar seat-order-serve-clear routine a steady progression as new customer types and restaurant features are introduced.

The PSP version also expands the format with Endless Shift and wireless competition. Endless Shift continually raises its score targets as Flo handles an unending line of guests, with stars serving as lives and periodic choices of upgrades such as a faster oven, quicker movement, extra tables, or customer-happiness aids. Its Ad Hoc multiplayer lets two nearby PSP systems compete in Highest Score, First to Serve a set number of customers, or Survival rounds. Players can select from Flo and several restaurant staff characters, while critics can award temporary advantages.

Although this is a portable adaptation of the earlier Diner Dash, it is not simply the original PC release under a new label. Its regional title difference is significant: North American packaging uses Diner Dash: Sizzle & Serve, while European and Australian releases are called Diner Dash. The combination of structured career challenges, an escalating endless mode, and PSP-only local Versus play makes this version a distinct entry for players looking for a restaurant-management puzzle built around fast service, queue control, and efficient multitasking.
