About
50 Cent: Bulletproof G-Unit Edition is the PlayStation Portable reworking of 50 Cent: Bulletproof. High Voltage Software developed the PSP version and Vivendi Games published it in North America on August 29, 2006. Rather than attempting a direct console port, the release recasts the action for Sony’s handheld while retaining the game’s crime-thriller premise and its licensed hip-hop identity.
A fictionalized 50 Cent answers a distress call from K-Dog, a friend from juvenile detention, only for the rescue to turn into an ambush that leaves him shot nine times. Recovering with Lloyd Banks, Young Buck and Tony Yayo, he follows the trail through New York’s gangs, criminal families and corrupt officials. The investigation expands from a personal revenge mission into a conspiracy involving weapons and drug trafficking.
The PSP game changes the original’s behind-the-character shooting to a top-down, isometric view. Its campaign is built around linear combat missions: move through hostile locations, clear groups of gunmen and confront bosses at the end of key encounters. The new viewpoint makes enemy positions and corridors visible at once, but the story scenes follow the same narrative used by the console releases.
Gunfights mix firearms, close-quarters attacks and defensive positioning. 50 can collect and switch among weapons, use cover, and take money or valuables from defeated opponents. Between missions, cash can be spent in the Hood on practical supplies such as ammunition and body armor, along with clothing and other optional purchases.
Music is woven into the progression as well as the soundtrack. The game includes tracks associated with 50 Cent and G-Unit, and its unlockable extras include additional songs and music videos. This gives the player a reason to revisit the game’s rewards beyond the campaign’s combat encounters.
G-Unit Edition also adds local multiplayer through the PSP’s ad hoc wireless connection, supporting up to four players. It has an Arcade Mode that can be unlocked after the main game, letting players use the G-Unit lineup outside the story. Those modes, together with the top-down redesign, distinguish the handheld edition from the 2005 PlayStation 2 and Xbox release.
