About
TMNT for Nintendo DS is Ubisoft's 2007 action-platform game based on the computer-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film released that same year. Developed by Ubisoft Quebec and published by Ubisoft, this handheld version arrived in North America on March 20, 2007. It shares the movie tie-in's New York setting and central concern with the four brothers' strained relationship, but it is a separate portable game rather than a conversion of the Game Boy Advance release or the home-console editions.
The story follows Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo at a point when the team has grown apart. New York faces threats from secretive enemies and unusual creatures, giving the Turtles reason to return to the rooftops and fight as a family again. The game uses that film-era premise as the frame for a sequence of missions, with the emphasis on the brothers' individual turns in the action rather than a free-roaming city.
TMNT Nintendo DS is built mainly around fast platforming. Across its 15 stages, the player is assigned a particular Turtle and guides him along urban routes toward the level goal. Jumping, timing, and moving through elevated courses are more important than extended brawling, while encounters with opponents punctuate the route. That structure gives the handheld game a different rhythm from the 2.5D beat-'em-up made for Game Boy Advance under the same TMNT title.
The four Turtles remain the playable stars, and missions draw on their ninja identities as the adventure moves through New York locations. The portable game's action is presented as a 3D platforming experience, with rooftop traversal forming a recurring part of its design. It keeps the film's broad story layout while condensing it into a handheld campaign, so it should not be mistaken for the console version's level count, character-switching setup, or larger-scale cooperative mechanics.
As a licensed entry in the long-running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game history, TMNT on Nintendo DS captures the franchise during its 2007 CGI-film revival. Ubisoft held the game rights after Konami's earlier run of TMNT releases, and produced several versions for different systems. For Nintendo DS players, this edition is the Ubisoft Quebec-developed companion to the PSP game: a single-player-focused rooftop action-platformer that revisits Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo's attempt to reunite and protect their city.
