About
Wipeout: The Game is a Nintendo DS party minigame based on ABC's Wipeout obstacle-course television show. Activision published the North American DS release on June 22, 2010; A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. Games developed it, with the show licensed from Endemol.
Players guide contestants through timed obstacle courses, aiming to reach the finish without falling into the surrounding water. The directional pad moves the contestant, while buttons allow sprinting, ducking, jumping, and blocking incoming objects.
TV Mode follows the show's format through three timed activities. Its opening round selects five obstacles at random, the second is the Sweeper, and the final round again focuses on clearing obstacles quickly enough to beat an opponent's time.
Winning in TV Mode unlocks Obstacle Mode. That mode contains twelve sets of challenges with three missions apiece; most require beating a target time, while Sweeper challenges ask the player to remain standing longer than the opponent.
The game draws on recognizable show obstacles including the Sucker Punch, Big Balls, and Sweeper, and uses voices from hosts John Anderson, John Henson, and Jill Wagner. It is an obstacle-course adaptation rather than the futuristic racing game series also titled WipEout.
