About

Littlest Pet Shop: Country Friends for Nintendo DS is a pet-themed adventure and simulation game from Electronic Arts, released in North America in October 2009. Developed at EA Salt Lake and published by EA under licence from Hasbro, it is the Country Friends edition of Littlest Pet Shop Friends, the second console-game installment based on the collectible animal-toy brand. Rather than being a generic version of the series, this Nintendo DS release arrived alongside the separate City Friends and Beach Friends editions, each built around its own story and group of exclusive pets.

The game’s central goal is to help a group of animal friends prepare for a major party. A bear arrives in town with a special friend, setting the celebration in motion, and the player guides the pets through a chain of errands and small adventures. Progress comes from travelling around the country-themed setting, meeting characters, completing requests, and collecting what is needed for the event. The mystery surrounding the party’s guest gives the journey a clear destination while the day-to-day tasks keep the focus on the playful social world associated with Littlest Pet Shop.

Country Friends uses the Nintendo DS touch-screen format for a mixture of exploration, chores, customization, and short activities. Players deliver invitations, handle party food such as cake and ice cream, and gather decorations and other supplies. Its activities also include matching colour swatches, sorting craft materials into the right containers, and selling materials to earn the in-game currency, Kibble. Those jobs turn the preparation into a steady loop: complete a task, earn or receive useful items, and use the results to move another part of the party plan forward.

Collecting and personalizing pets are a major part of the experience. The animals have their own home, where party items including gifts, baked goods, and decorations can be sent, while accessories let players change the pets’ look and even create designs of their own. The Country Friends cartridge has a selection of pets unavailable in the other two Nintendo DS editions, giving it an identity beyond its rural setting. Each pet is paired with a best friend whose abilities help with particular activities, so choosing companions is tied to getting through the game’s quests as well as to building a collection.

Electronic Arts positioned Littlest Pet Shop: Country Friends as a single-player DS adventure with expanded local wireless multiplayer features for sharing the party-oriented activities with another player. It earned an E for Everyone rating from the ESRB, which described it as a simulation game about preparing a surprise party. Country Friends therefore captures a distinct late-2000s strand of licensed Nintendo DS design: a compact, touch-driven game that combines light task progression, collectible characters, dress-up options, and minigames within one themed version of a larger Littlest Pet Shop release.
