About
GoldenEye 007 Nintendo DS is a first-person shooter released in November 2010 by Activision and developed for the handheld by n-Space. It revisits the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye through the contemporary screen persona of Daniel Craig, while remaining a distinct Nintendo DS production rather than a port of the Wii game or the later GoldenEye 007: Reloaded. As MI6 agent James Bond, players move through an espionage story of stolen weapons technology, rival agents, and international operations that echoes familiar GoldenEye locations and characters in an updated setting.
The single-player campaign blends direct firefights with objectives that suit Bond’s role as an operative. Missions ask 007 to advance through guarded compounds and hostile interiors while handling tasks such as gathering intelligence, disarming threats, photographing evidence, and reaching designated targets. The route through an encounter can often be approached quietly or aggressively: a suppressed takedown and careful use of cover may avoid an alarm, while open combat brings a faster and more dangerous solution. Interactive environmental objects, including hazards that can be shot, add another way to deal with groups of enemies.
GoldenEye 007 uses the Nintendo DS hardware for portable first-person controls. Players can aim with the stylus on the touch screen while moving with the directional controls, and the game also offers a button-focused control option for players who prefer to assign movement and looking across the system’s physical inputs. Weapons are selected and used around the demands of each mission, while the touch screen supports the shooting interface. The design keeps the action in a compact handheld format without turning the campaign into a simple sequence of target galleries.
The story takes Bond from an opening Russian facility into a succession of operations inspired by the film’s world, including the pursuit of General Ourumov, the threat posed by Xenia Onatopp, and the wider GoldenEye satellite conspiracy. Daniel Craig’s Bond replaces the appearance associated with the 1997 Nintendo 64 game, and the narrative updates the material for the era of Craig’s early films. This creates a separate interpretation of GoldenEye: it draws on the film’s characters and major ideas, but is not a recreation of Rare’s Nintendo 64 missions.
Difficulty choices change the demands of the campaign by varying its objectives, giving repeat play a practical purpose beyond simply replaying the story. Completing the main game also opens a time-trial mode, where fast mission completion can unlock cheats for further runs. These options connect the DS release to the objective-driven character of earlier Bond games while giving its short-form missions an additional layer of challenge.
Multiplayer broadens GoldenEye 007 Nintendo DS beyond its solo campaign. Up to six players can compete through local wireless play with multiple Nintendo DS systems, and the game originally also supported online matches through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Its competitive modes include the franchise-appropriate Golden Gun style of contest, with maps built for portable arena shooting. Released alongside the better-known Wii version, this n-Space game occupies its own place in the 2010 GoldenEye revival: a handheld first-person shooter that adapts Bond’s covert assignments, gunplay, and multiplayer rivalry to the Nintendo DS.
