About

Eyeshield 21: MAX DEVILPOWER! is a Japan-only Nintendo DS sports action RPG based on Riichiro Inagaki and Yusuke Murata's American-football manga and its television anime. Released by Nintendo on February 2, 2006 and developed by Eighting, it follows the early adventures of the Deimon Devil Bats. The player steps into the shoes of Sena Kobayakawa, a quiet freshman whose remarkable speed earns him a place on the school team under the concealed identity Eyeshield 21.

The story mode uses the school and its football club as a hub for a retelling of the source material, with original game events woven into the progression. Sena talks to classmates and rivals, moves between locations around Deimon High, trains, and takes on football-related challenges as the Devil Bats build toward tougher opponents. The game presents the cast and broad premise through substantial Japanese text, making familiarity with the franchise or the language especially useful for import players.

Rather than simulating a full broadcast-style gridiron match, MAX DEVILPOWER! breaks plays into brisk touchscreen challenges. The stylus controls movement throughout the adventure, and a swipe can give Sena an extra burst while he runs. During offense, the player reacts to openings in the defense before the timer expires; on defense, fast rubbing motions build tackling speed. Kicks use a quick stylus stroke against a power gauge, giving each phase of a game its own compact touch-driven test.

That design keeps the fundamentals of American football in view without demanding deep knowledge of the sport. Teams still work through downs, possessions, touchdowns, passing, running, tackles, turnovers, and field goals, while the game makes success depend on the player’s timing during its challenge sequences. Choosing an appropriate play matters, but a sharp response can still rescue a difficult situation. It is an intentionally stylized interpretation of football, built around the pace and exaggeration of Eyeshield 21 rather than the conventions of a traditional sports simulation.

Story Mode is joined by Battle Mode for matches against the computer or another player, while the Playbook records progress and additional accomplishments. Off-field sections also include simple minigames and activities. The DS layout supports the design by keeping the action centered on the touch screen and using the other display for situational information, such as defensive pressure. Eighting described the project as a high-speed touch-pen sports game designed to let people enjoy exciting football even if they do not know the rules.

For Eyeshield 21 fans, MAX DEVILPOWER! offers a distinctive licensed-game take on Sena’s rise from bullied student to lightning-fast running back. Its cartoon-styled presentation, fictional school teams, and rapid stylus challenges make it markedly different from Western football games of its era. It remains a specific snapshot of the 2006 Nintendo DS library: an inventive, Japanese-language adaptation that turns the series’ speed, personality, and underdog energy into an accessible sequence of touch-based football encounters.
