About

Chi's Sweet Home: Chi ga Ouchi ni Yatte Kita! is a Japan-only Nintendo DS game released on September 4, 2008. Developed and published by Interchannel, it turns Konami Kanata's Chi's Sweet Home manga and its 2008 television anime into a gentle single-player communication adventure. Rather than sending its kitten hero into a conventional quest, the game invites players to spend time with Chi, the small grey-and-white cat who has joined the Yamada family. Its Japanese title means that Chi has come to your home, framing the experience as a series of everyday encounters with an inquisitive young pet.

The Nintendo DS version is built around direct interaction with Chi. Players use the touch screen and stylus to pet her, and the way she is stroked affects her mood: careful attention can please her, while other handling can leave her less happy. That simple tactile idea suits both the character and the hardware, making the lower screen a place for playful, repeated contact rather than a substitute for the action controls of another genre. The game is therefore closer to a character-focused companion experience than to a traditional platformer or role-playing game.

Much of the activity takes place in and around the Yamada household. Players can play with Chi and search the family's home for scattered items, checking in on what will keep the kitten content. The routine is punctuated by events and minigames, giving the player small goals while keeping the emphasis on Chi's reactions. These activities reflect the source material's interest in ordinary discoveries: a household object, an unfamiliar situation, or a moment of play can become an event when viewed from the perspective of a very young cat.

Chi herself comes from a story about a kitten separated from her mother and siblings before being found by Yohei Yamada and brought home by his family. The Yamadas decide to keep her despite the restrictions at their apartment complex, and the manga and anime follow her adjustment to domestic life, her curiosity, and her meetings with people and other animals. Chi ga Ouchi ni Yatte Kita! draws on that setting and on recognizable situations from the original work and television adaptation, so its events, items, and presentation were designed to welcome established fans while remaining approachable for players meeting Chi for the first time.

The release arrived during the original TV anime's 2008 run. TV Tokyo announced the DS game as a communication game and identified Interchannel Holon as its publisher and distributor, while Nintendo's software page categorized it as an adventure title. The two descriptions capture the game's hybrid character: there are game-like diversions and things to collect, but its central purpose is sharing daily time with Chi. It supports one player, and its design keeps the focus on observation, touch-based interaction, and the changing responses of its feline lead.

For fans of Chi's Sweet Home, the Nintendo DS game offers an interactive counterpart to the short domestic episodes of the manga and anime. Its appeal lies in using the system's stylus to make Chi feel present, then building a play session out of small household discoveries instead of dramatic stakes. As a licensed game tied closely to a 2008 anime adaptation, Chi's Sweet Home: Chi ga Ouchi ni Yatte Kita! preserves a particular moment in Nintendo DS history: a character game shaped around the console's touch screen and around the appeal of caring for, amusing, and getting to know a curious kitten.
