About
Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction for Nintendo DS is a 2010 action-platform game based on the animated series Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. Developed for the handheld by Griptonite Games and published by D3Publisher, it gives players control of Ben Tennyson as he uses the Ultimatrix to confront hostile aliens and prevent a worldwide catastrophe. Although Cosmic Destruction also appeared on home consoles and PSP, this DS edition is its own side-scrolling interpretation, built around compact stages, direct controls, and frequent transformations.
The Nintendo DS game combines platform movement with room-by-room combat. Ben runs, jumps, and double-jumps through 2D environments, while an attack button handles the close-range or projectile attacks available to the current form. Encounters commonly hold the player in an area until its enemies have been beaten, so moving ahead means balancing attacks, positioning, and the abilities of the alien currently selected. Clear visual prompts and a straightforward control layout make the basics easy to follow while leaving room for players to learn when a different form is more useful.
Transforming is central to the adventure. The Ultimatrix lets Ben switch from his human form into a selection of alien heroes, effectively changing how he approaches fights and obstacles. These forms supply different attack styles and special techniques rather than functioning as cosmetic swaps. A charged special meter can also be spent on an Ultimate attack, presenting the corresponding powered-up alien and clearing the enemies on screen. The transformation system encourages players to keep changing forms instead of relying on a single favorite throughout every stage.
Cosmic Destruction draws its premise from the Ultimate Alien era of the franchise. Ben, Gwen, and Kevin are caught up in a race involving an ancient Galvan artifact, the Potis Altiare, whose scattered pieces must be found before a destructive threat reaches Earth. The campaign takes the group through locations associated with that globe-spanning search, mixing the television series cast and science-fiction setting with self-contained platforming challenges. Dialogue and story scenes provide the thread between levels, while the action remains focused on Ben and the abilities of his alien transformations.
The DS version emphasizes a brisk, portable structure. Stages are designed as short sequences of combat arenas, jumps, and environmental progression rather than the larger 3D areas associated with other versions of Cosmic Destruction. Tutorials introduce its systems gradually, and the game includes unlockable extras and upgrades for players who finish the campaign or search stages thoroughly for collectibles. That approach makes repeated exploration useful without changing the central goal: advance through the adventure, defeat the opposition, and use the Ultimatrix at the right moment.
As part of the long-running Ben 10 game line, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction on DS follows earlier licensed action games while reflecting the characters and new alien forms introduced by its source series. Its September- and October-2010 release period placed it among several versions of the same title, but Griptonite Games created a specifically handheld, 2D side-view game rather than a direct copy of the console release. For Nintendo DS players, it is a compact Ben 10 adventure that makes alien switching, special attacks, and stage-by-stage brawling the core of the experience.
