About

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for PlayStation 2 is a 2009 action game based on the live-action film of the same name. Published by Activision and developed for PS2 by Krome Studios, it is a separate version from the contemporaneous PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC releases. Its campaign returns to the film series' conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, placing battles across locations associated with the movie's globe-spanning struggle.

The PlayStation 2 game is built as a linear, third-person action experience that combines shooting and close-quarters brawling. Rather than choosing two entirely separate story campaigns, players move through one sequence of missions that alternates between Autobot and Decepticon characters. Each level focuses on combat encounters and set-piece objectives, with the selected Transformer using its own weapons and abilities against opposing forces.

Transformation is treated differently here than in several other versions of Revenge of the Fallen. It is not a freely available way to travel through each stage; instead, vehicle transformation functions as a powerful Energon-consuming move that can clear nearby opponents. Defeating enemies replenishes Energon, creating a practical choice between spending that resource on transformation attacks or restoring health during a difficult fight. The result keeps the emphasis on managing a character's robot-form combat tools while progressing through the campaign.

The story follows the broad premise of the 2009 film while telling its own platform-specific version of events. With Megatron gone and fragments of Cybertronian power at stake, the Decepticons work toward reviving their leader and helping the Fallen reactivate the Star Harvester. Autobots including Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, and Jetfire oppose that plan, while Decepticon missions feature figures such as Sideways, Starscream, Megatron, and Devastator. Shanghai, the Laurentian Abyss, a Decepticon base, and Egypt provide the backdrop for the escalating conflict.

A second person can take part through the local Remote Weapons System co-op feature. Instead of controlling another Transformer, the supporting player operates a floating, reticule-controlled system that can fire on enemies, deploy a protective shield, and transfer Energon to the main player. The PS2 version also includes unlockable extras such as character models and concept art. As a film tie-in released during the PlayStation 2's later years, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen offers a distinct Krome Studios interpretation of the movie's Autobot-versus-Decepticon war, rather than a conversion of the higher-end console edition.
