About
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter for PlayStation 2 is a third-person action adventure released by LucasArts in November 2002. Developed and published by LucasArts, it places players in the armor of Jango Fett, the professional hunter seen in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. The game was designed as a prequel to that film, following Jango during the final years of the Republic as a dangerous assignment begins to explain why he becomes so important to the coming clone army.
The story opens with Fett being offered an enormous contract by the mysterious Darth Tyranus. His target is Komari Vosa, a Dark Jedi who leads the Bando Gora cult. Finding her takes Jango through a criminal network built around the trafficking of death sticks and brings him into conflict with gangsters, cultists, competing hunters, and his long-standing rival Montross. The campaign moves between locations including Coruscant, Malastare, Tatooine, an asteroid prison, and the Bando Gora stronghold, gradually tying the hunt to events and relationships that lead toward Attack of the Clones.
On PS2, Bounty Hunter is built around direct combat, traversal, and pursuit. Jango carries his signature pair of blaster pistols and can lock on while moving around opponents; the dual weapons can engage two enemies at once. His equipment also includes a flamethrower, missile capability, poison darts, and a whipcord. The jetpack lets him cross gaps, rise to ledges, and maneuver above danger, though its fuel is limited and recharges when it is not in use. Somersaults, sidesteps, and jumps make mobility part of surviving the packed encounters.
The bounty system distinguishes the game from a straightforward Star Wars shooter. Jango's helmet scanner can examine people in the environment to identify optional bounty targets, switching the view for the scan. Once a target has been found, the player can choose whether to eliminate the quarry or restrain them with the whipcord for a live capture. These secondary hunts provide credits and encourage players to inspect levels beyond the critical path, complementing the main mission to reach Vosa.
The PlayStation 2 campaign spans 18 levels across six worlds, with a mixture of firefights, platforming routes, boss confrontations, and cinematic story scenes. Completing missions and collecting optional items unlocks extras such as concept art, Star Wars Trading Card Game cards, comic material, and outtake-style cutscene reels. Industrial Light & Magic created the game's cinematics, while Skywalker Sound contributed to its audio, extending LucasArts' presentation with established Star Wars production partners.
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter arrived on PlayStation 2 alongside a GameCube version and remains a single-player chapter centered on a character who had only recently reached the screen in the prequel era. In Japan, the PS2 release was titled Star Wars: Jango Fett. Later PS2-based digital releases brought the original game to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, while a newer multi-platform version revisited the adventure years afterward. For the original PS2 game, the focus remains firmly on Jango's contract: track leads, make use of a bounty hunter's tools, and follow the case from the Republic's underworld to its final confrontation.
