About

Gantz: The Game is a PlayStation 2 adaptation of Hiroya Oku's Gantz manga, developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and published by Konami in Japan on March 17, 2005. It brings the series' early premise to a console game built around its reluctant alien hunters.

The story begins with high-school students Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato dying in a train accident. They awaken in a bare Tokyo apartment with other recently deceased people and discover the black sphere called Gantz. Its summons send the group into missions against alien targets, with survival determining who returns to the room afterward.

The game follows characters and events from the source material through the Chibi Alien mission. Kurono is at the center of the story, while the people around him can become allies whose relationships and outcomes are shaped by the player's decisions. Narrative scenes lead into the missions and present choices that influence trust, character development, and routes toward different endings.

Action is presented from a third-person perspective and combines shooting with role-playing elements. Players use the futuristic gear issued by Gantz, including the X Gun, Y Gun, X Rifle, Gantz Sword, enhanced suits, and other support equipment. Battles call for close-range attacks, ranged weapons, movement, and commands for accompanying partners.

Its campaign is divided into scenarios containing story, battle, and scoring portions. Victories award points and support the game's progression systems, while choices and performance can affect the course of a scenario. The mission lineup includes confrontations based on the Onion, Suzuki, Buddha Statue, and Chibi Alien encounters, followed by a school sequence.

Outside the main story, Gantz: The Game includes Free Play and Mini Mode, plus a magazine browser, Gantz rankings, a special preview movie, and scenario-completion tracking. These options let players revisit combat and view material unlocked through progress without starting the campaign again.
