About

Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu for PlayStation 2 is a 2003 3D beat-'em-up from Ubisoft Montreal, published by Ubi Soft. Released in North America on October 16, it turns the Gotham City world associated with The New Batman Adventures into a direct, stage-by-stage action game. Batman is the central hero, but Robin, Nightwing, and Batgirl are playable as well. Its story begins on the anniversary of Thomas and Martha Wayne's deaths, when an escalating crisis across Gotham draws the Bat-family into a campaign against an unfamiliar enemy.

The PS2 game is built around moving through contained urban and institutional locations, confronting groups of thugs, and clearing encounters before advancing. Punches, kicks, throws, and character-specific martial-arts attacks form the foundation of combat, while gadgets such as Batarangs and the grappling hook extend the heroes' options. Combos build a special meter for more powerful attacks, and successful progress earns points that can be spent on additional moves. The result is a focused brawler in which the immediate task is usually to control a crowd, with boss encounters and occasional objectives such as protecting civilians or dealing with explosives changing the pace.

Players can select Batman or one of his three allies, whose relative strengths emphasize different approaches to the same combat system. Batman is balanced by the game against quicker or more agile partners, and the campaign can be tackled alone or with a second local player. Cooperative play lets two heroes fight through the story together and includes team attacks that are not available in solo play. A separate challenge mode also centers on defeating groups of enemies outside the narrative, providing an additional way to use the four-character roster.

Rise of Sin Tzu brings familiar Gotham adversaries into its story, including Scarecrow, Clayface, and Bane, while placing them within a plot orchestrated by Sin Tzu. The character was created for the game with comic artist Jim Lee involved in his design, making him a notable addition to this particular Batman production. The PS2 presentation uses stylized character models, dramatic lighting, and an art-deco-influenced Gotham that reflect the animated series' visual direction. The connection is also heard in the returning performers: Kevin Conroy voices Batman, with Loren Lester, Tara Strong, Scott Menville, Bob Hastings, Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Combs, and others reprising associated roles.

Although Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu also arrived on Xbox, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance, the PlayStation 2 release is one of the home-console versions built around its 3D brawling format and two-player campaign. It followed the more adventure-oriented Batman: Vengeance by placing greater weight on successive fights, move upgrades, and co-op action. For PS2 players looking for a compact Batman game driven by arcade-style combat and the animated Gotham cast, it offers a self-contained battle against a villain created specifically for this chapter of the series.
