About

FIFA Soccer World Championship is the PlayStation 2 football game released in Japan as FIFAサッカー ワールドチャンピオンシップ. Developed by Electronic Arts and published in Japan by Electronic Arts Square, it arrived on 25 May 2000.

This Japanese PS2 release is a FIFA- and JFA-approved entry in the FIFA Soccer series. Its roster presentation uses real team and player names.

The game offers Exhibition, World Cup, U-23 World Championship, League and Training modes. The U-23 World Championship centers on under-23 national teams, with 16 U-23 sides available for the competition.

World Cup and league play provide tournament and season-style routes alongside individual matches and training. Team management is part of the game's setup and match menus.

Players can edit teams and players, and use the transfer options to alter squads. Match options also cover cards, offsides, injuries, camera settings and replay settings.

The PS2 presentation adds detailed player models, facial animation and dynamically lit stadiums. It also lets players give commands to teammates they are not directly controlling.

FIFA Soccer World Championship should not be confused with the separate PS2 release FIFA 2001 World Championship, which followed in Japan later in 2000.
