Spider-Man : Web of Shadows

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows on Nintendo DS is a 2008 action adventure built around a symbiote outbreak in Manhattan. Developed by Griptonite Games and published by Activision, this handheld version is a distinct game from the open-world console release: it presents Spider-Man’s fight to contain the invasion through a side-scrolling, exploration-focused format.

The story begins after the city has already been overrun. Spider-Man gains control of a new black symbiote suit while searching for the source of the infestation, and his investigation brings him into contact with Black Cat, Nightcrawler, the Green Goblin, Venom, and powerful symbiote enemies.

Players move through an interconnected map rather than a sequence of isolated arenas. New abilities and upgrades open routes through previously inaccessible areas, giving the adventure a progression structure associated with Metroid and Castlevania-style games while keeping the focus on Spider-Man’s traversal and combat.

Spider-Man can switch freely between his familiar red-and-blue suit and the black suit. The red suit emphasizes speed and quicker attacks, while the black suit trades some agility for heavier, more destructive blows. Experience earned from battles can be spent on additional moves for both fighting styles.

The DS edition also builds choices into its mission structure. At key points, players decide whose objective to pursue, including requests connected to Nightcrawler and the Green Goblin. Those decisions affect the path through the campaign and help determine the game’s ending.

Combat combines close-range attacks, web-based movement, and encounters designed for the portable system. If Spider-Man is defeated, a Nintendo DS touch-screen revival sequence offers a chance to recover by collecting health orbs and clearing hazards before time runs out.
