About
Shingata Medarot: Kabuto Version is a role-playing game for Game Boy Advance, released in Japan by Imagineer on December 16, 2004. It remakes the 1997 Game Boy title Medarot, the origin of the series, rather than continuing Medarot 2 or its Game Boy Advance remake, Medarot Ni CORE.
In its near-future setting, Medarots are pet robots and Robattles between them are a popular pastime. The player controls the boy Gamma, who obtains a Medarot and becomes drawn into incidents caused by the world-conquest-minded Roborobo Gang.
A Medarot is assembled from a head, right arm, left arm, and leg part, with a Medal installed as its core. Players can keep up to nine Medarots and take up to three into a Robattle, designating one as leader. A match ends when a leader stops functioning, and the winner can take one part from the defeated side.
This Kabuto Version begins with Beat, a Kabuto-beetle-type partner. The simultaneously released Kuwagata Version instead begins with Servo, a stag-beetle-type partner; these are the remake-specific partners and should not be confused with the earlier Medarot versions' Metabee and Rokusho.
Shingata Medarot updates the original game's character designs and adds features while retaining its basic concept. Its sequence-animation system presents smoother Medarot actions during Robattles, and the game includes tutorials, two-player link battles, and the ability to trade parts and Medals.
