About
Disney's American Dragon: Jake Long, Rise of the Huntsclan! is a Game Boy Advance action game developed by WayForward Technologies and published by Buena Vista Games. It was released in North America on October 12, 2006, with the European release using the shorter title Disney's American Dragon: Jake Long. The game adapts Disney's animated series as a side-view brawler with platforming elements.
Jake sets out to stop the Huntsman and the Huntsclan from collecting the objects for a revival ritual that could give them the power to destroy New York City. As the young American Dragon, he faces the clan's magical allies while pursuing the threat through the city. The story uses the series' central contrast between Jake's ordinary teenage identity and his role as a protector of the magical world.
The single-player campaign is divided into more than 20 combat-heavy stages. Its New York locations range from downtown streets and the underground to sewer tunnels, a bridge, the docks, a temple, and a dungeon. Stages mix enemy ambushes with movement challenges, including vertical climbs, traversable lines, hazards, and boss encounters.
In human form, Jake relies on close-range martial-arts combinations and can attack while airborne with his skateboard. Encounters bring in different supernatural opponents, including trolls, gargoyles, harpies, and Huntsclan fighters, requiring players to punch through groups, dodge attacks, and keep moving through the level.
Blue focus orbs refill the transformation meter. With a full meter, Jake can become the American Dragon, gaining flight and fire-breath attacks that make traversal and crowd control more direct. Clearing a stage also lets the player select an ability upgrade, while support moves call on Jake's friends and family for effects such as focus pickups, healing food, or a rain of fire.
Boss fights punctuate the route, including a confrontation with Huntsgirl and her staff attacks. Beyond the main story, the cartridge supports a separate flying wireless mode for up to four players, giving the handheld game a multiplayer feature alongside Jake's solo campaign.
