About
Madden NFL 06 for Game Boy Advance brings EA Sports’ long-running licensed American-football series to Nintendo’s handheld in a version developed by Exient Entertainment. Released in North America in August 2005, this is a compact, real-time football game built around the NFL teams and seasonal roster update of its era. It translates the series’ play-by-play structure to the GBA with a diagonal, scrolling field view and direct control of the player involved in each snap.
Games begin with the familiar tactical choice of offense, defense, and special-teams plays. Once the ball is snapped, the action shifts from play selection to running, passing, tackling, and defending on the field. Moving the ball efficiently, protecting possession, stopping drives, and managing the clock remain central to winning. The handheld presentation keeps the focus on reading the developing play and making quick decisions rather than reproducing every feature of the home-console editions.
Exhibition lets players set up a single matchup, while Season mode offers a longer campaign through the NFL schedule. Practice is available for working with the controls and playbook away from a full game, and Situation mode presents game states that can be played out from a particular point. The Two Minute Drill supplies a more concentrated challenge, asking players to make the most of limited time as they try to move the offense into scoring range.
Madden NFL 06 GBA also retains the Madden Challenges and their collectible Madden Cards, giving players objectives outside standard matches. Its principal new addition is Mini Camp, a collection of score-based drills centered on core football skills. Goal kicking, passing, running, and tackling events isolate individual parts of the sport, providing a different kind of play from a complete NFL contest and an opportunity to pursue better scores.
The Game Boy Advance release is closely related to the previous year’s handheld Madden, using a similar visual engine and menu structure while updating the season’s content and adding Mini Camp. That continuity makes it a distinctly portable entry in the Madden NFL line rather than a direct copy of the better-known console versions of Madden NFL 06. Most of its major modes also support two players through the Game Boy Advance Link Cable, allowing head-to-head games on the handheld hardware.
